I'm experimenting with several ideas to upgrade BFG with a few pals of mine. The 2 ideas below are by far the most game changing and I wanted to get a few opinions before I present them.
1) Escorts hit Attack Craft on a 4+, Torpedoes on a 5+.
Even after multiple upgrades to Escorts, they still remain completely underused in BFG. The reason is that Ordinance already does everything they do faster and more efficiently. By letting Escorts 'clear the way' of opposing ordinance, you give them an effective role on battlefield, escorting the capital ships and protecting them from attack craft. (shocking!)
2) Rebuild the gunnery table to remove diminishing returns.
Probably one of my biggest frustrations with an otherwise excellent game is the almost random way the Gunnery Table is built. The fact that its never a good idea to combine 2 ships firepower is pretty stupid imo. Really, additional firepower should increase the weight of dice you get to throw at the opposing ships, not reduce it. (I might even squadron ships more often then) The only problem is that I haven't figured out exactly what values to use without throwing the dice counts way out of proportion.
Thoughts?
