Hello!

I really, really like the McFarlane series 6 Ice Dragon.

BUT, I'm afraid that he's just too big to be used in a WFB setting.

Am I right?

Does anyone know how well (or not) the McFarlane Dragons work in GW's world?

Thanks!

Can someone *please* help me out here?

I'm waffling on whether or not to buy one of these!

Without seeing a standard WFB infantry guy next to it for scale, it's hard to say.

" Ice dragon measures 16 inches from head to tip of fully extended poseable tale. Top spike on back measures 4 ½ inches tall. Ball joint at neck; also articulated at shoulders and hips. Custom ice base includes miniature human figure.

I agree with both of you.

What I was hoping for though was for someone who owns one of the McFarlane Dragons to take a picture of one with a WFB miniature next to it...

I *think* it will work, but I just want to be sure...

Thanks!

I haven't seen them myself, but I know that Blue Table Painting use them quite often for WHFB. If you have a look through their videos on youtube, you should find some, or look through their gallery on their website. I'm sorry, but I can't remember which dragons they've used or which army they've put them with, but try contacting Shawn and he may be able to help you.

I don't have the particular ice dragon you're interested in, but I own 5 of the McFarlane dragons range, mostly from the early series. I've taken some quick shots of 4 of them here beside a few of the early test models for my space wolves army, since space marines are a fairly standard size and they were what I had to hand. I don't play fantasy, but could dig out my chaos daemons from their box if you'd like to see sizes compared to those instead.

Hopefully these pictures can give you some idea of the size to expect from the McFarlane dragons range. Please keep in mind that not all McFarlane dragons are to scale with each other (compare the sizes of the figure riding the eternal dragon on the rooftop to the figure hanging from the water dragon), and that in my exerience, each series consists of several dragons all the same size, plus one bigger one in larger packaging (and with a larger price tag). The eternal dragon on the rooftop with the figure is one of these bigger ones, and based on the size of the base for it in your picture, I suspect that the ice dragon you're looking at might be one of these for its series.

Hope that helps. I also have one more, a sorcerer dragon which is holding a magic orb of some sort in its tail, but these four were all that I could fit on the shelf next to my light at one time. I can take pictures against other models (although my range is limited to tyranids and some chaos daemons) or from different angles if that's any help. Just let me know.

Good info.

I was considering picking up one of McFarlan's dragons to use in an RPG (I was looking for something that could pass as colossal in size). I ended up finding something else to use though.

McFarlan makes super detailed toys though, and they'll work as minis very well.

jprp, please check some dates prior to posting in anything dug up from the backlog.

Not a huge issue, but if a thread isn't current it runs the risk of burying new threads that haven't had a fair shake on the front page!
