Hi everyone,

So yesterday I was bored and finally came up with a way to do an idea I had gotten a while ago. Space Marines have become common in real life (surprisingly new news huh ). There seems to be enough of them that they could even be considered a type of cannon fodder. Then I rememebered how ages ago I wanted to make a Zaku army, something to make the Space Marines a bit better. Then I just grabbed a bunch of spare parts and one of my marines I use to test out colour schemes and started putting it together. Like the title says this is only a prototype, after seeing how easy it was to throw together I'm considering finaly making that Zeon Space Marine army. As this is a prototype the design isn't final and the painting was rushed to allow the various parts of the conversion to be seen a little easier. A few parts of the design need a little work so comments and criticism are welcome.

I'm considering the Black Templar's codex simply because it's kind of hard to find a character to match with Char and the Emperor's Champion seems like a good match. But, if you have any codex suggestions they will be great as well. Thanks in advance

I can see what you were going for but... I think the word I am going for is awkward. The pose is off and the card is very blocky. There is alot of work per mini to pull this off without it looking, I'm sorry, bad. I think what is doing it is the card work. It is just so small of a mini that that many right angles and oversized pieces just overpower the mini.

I know it is a prototype mini so don't mean to sound to over critical. So please do not take any offense to my C&C.

I've always thought this was a good idea. But if i were you I'd use Tau. They seem very "gundamish" to me, I'm not very familiar with the codex, but maybe one of thier characters matches Char better. Battlesuits scream mobile suit to me, and I kinda think they'd be easier to convert into gundams. Cool idea though, it'll be a very original army.

Well the only card work is actually the sheild shoulder and the armour plates at the front (I don't really like these so they're definitely changing). The other shoulder just has some spikes from the Ork Boyz I got. I guess I could make the sheild a bit smaller and use something smaller for the spikes as they look like the most oversized thing to me. The sheild is a bit big, but not as much as the spikes are.

Thanks for the comments so far

Edit: Yeah the Tau seem that way to me as well, but I wanted to get some decent CC into it as well
I've tried them, but I just never liked their playstyle. I might give them another try sometime later. Ironically I just sold my Tau army today. Also that picture is win.

Paint, I've never used Green Stuff. It's just a rushed paint job because most of it was filing and cutting existing parts. Plus the card parts are actually clear so unpainted you really couldn't see much.

Well the ideas for vehicles is really holding it back so it might not even become an army yet.

That was pretty useful, thanks

The problem is that I play nearly every game in a GW so I'l have to be creative and convert some GW vehicles to try to match the style of them. So many thngs to go through, I might leave this one for a while and see what ideas I come up with. If it doesn't work out I guess I could try to do just one, but for an Ork army

I'm struggling to even see what the idea is. What, in clear English, are you trying to do with this?

And for the love of the Emperor, thin your paints.

If you were to refine the design and painting, I could see this coming out pretty nicely.

Perhaps something like this?

Tactical Marines:
Zaku II

Scouts:
Zaku I

Assault Marines:
Zudah

Vanguard Marines:
Kampfer

Sternguard:
Gelgoog

Terminators:
DOM

Chapter Master:
Char's Gelgoog (or, if you want a termie armour chapter master, Quattro Bageena's Rick Dias)

Librarian:
Qubeley

Master of the Forge/Techmarine:

I used to have a tiny capsule figure of the Kampfer that would fit in perfectly with GW scale too. If you could find a lot of those...

That's the first time anyone has ever told me to thin my paints
Problem is though as it was a colour scheme test model it has about 3-4 different colour schemes under it's current rushed one.

Nice ideas Fafnir

I dont know, but being honost to you is alot better than saying it looks good. Im sure some of these points might of already been hit on, but I saw that you rushed it, perhaps take alittle more time, it wouldnt hurt that much, also the paint, very thick. Like it was said before, I would thin the paint some, or try to use less paint of the brush, it just looks alittle bit of a mess 0_0 but we are here to help you! So keep at it with the tips we have given you!

I think it's an awesome idea. You just need to work on your execution a little bit. Keep it up and I'm sure you can nail it.

I don't know why other people don't like it. I think it looks good. It could maybe use a thicker neck to look a little more proportional.

I like it though, I think you should keep going with it.
