With the new tyranids codex now being out I believe that one point now clearly stands out

the Nidzilla build that ruled the battlefields for a while is no longer a premium tyranids build. It still is pretty good but...

When I first picked up nids the first image that came to my mind when I thought of a tyranids invasion wasn't 6 carnifexes and 2 hive tyrant marching on an ennemy force but millions of gaunts making their way to overwhelm ennemies with sheer numbers

I think the GW codex developpers had pretty much the same idea. with new units capable of spawning like the Tervigon and the parasite or mortrex and that same Tervigon being able to give feel no pain to a unit along with the fact that gaunts just got terribly stronger with the dakkagaunts(or devilgaunts if you prefer) now shooting thrice at strenght 4(epic), the genestealers lost 2 points while getting infiltrate(yes we no longer need you scuttlers)(epic) the hormagaunts now having a 4+ poisonned attack(epic) and costing slightly less

Also the monstruous creatures while being considerably stronger then before now cost nearly twice as much as they used to and with the carnifex no longer being able to take and elite slot means that a MC spam list is much much harder to field

the day of MC spam are now over...their places now belong to hybrid builds and swarm type army

In conclusion, fellow dakkaite, stop trying to reinvent nidzilla and switch over to a swarm or hybrid build this way the tournament tables and the whole universe will know

And how, pray tell are your hordes of gants going to open the transports, land raiders, falcons, devilfish, and stop the guard from reigning death upon you?

The parisite does not spawn units, there are MORE MC's available, and in every slot. Even scoring. Tervigons will add ~2 units of 16-19 gants before crapping out, unlike the last iteration where without bomber never stopped providing gants.

While your post has merit, you miss much of the point of the discussion

With Zoanthropes in spore pods? duh they are not monstrous creatures, neither are hive guard!

Actually you can take a monstrous creature in almost every slot of the Force Organization chart now. Thanks to harpies and Tervigons. It is still incredibly viable to play nidzilla.

The parasite in a way spawns units, he just has to kill them in order for it to happen, just like chaos can with spawns.

switch over to a swarm or hybrid build

hybrid guys thats right hybrid

and swarm doesnt mean you dont take ANY MC

and we can always take it out through sheer number of glancing hits

But you can have an effective list without monstrous creatures....

Fight some battles and see whether you got some deeper thoughts on this codex, otherwise read Mahu's post first.

Meh, I don't agree. The reason that Nidzilla worked, was because there were some very useful VERY cheap Fex builds that you could spam, and then there were also some pretty cheap Tyrant builds as well.

Those are all gone. You can't field a 115 point Fex anymore, at all. And what you can field is a lot less value for the points, so it's not just a matter of taking more expensive MCs, they're just not the ridiculously undercosted obviousness they were before.

Not to say MCs are all bad... Tervigons are great, T-Fexes seem to be popular in power builds so far, but they've put a lot of the value into the littler guys. Gants, Hormagaunts, Gargoyles and Warriors are all good for the points now, Zoanthropes and Hive Guard are also very nice for their points.
