Played a game today against Starbomber109s orks. It was pretty bloody. Ive played mostly shooty armies, either gunline marines or mechdar for the last 3 years, and have almost never played a pure CC army, so this was a brand new experience. I ran the following.
Swarmlord-280
2 tyrant guard-130
Lash whips
2 zoanthropes-120
Mycetic spore-40
24 termagaunts-120
10 gene stealers-140
10 gene stealers-140
20 gargoyles-160
Toxin sacs, adrenal glands
Trygon prime-265
Regenerate,
Mawlok-195
regenerate
Carnifex-220
Crushing claws, bio plasma, twin linked devourers.
Spod-40
And he had something like this off memory.
Warboss with klaw
Big mek with KFF
2 squads of 10 nobs in battle wagons
3 squads of 12 boyz in trukks
3 deffkoptas.
This was definitely something I wasnt looking forward to fighting for a first game. Multiple vehicles with lots of nob squads were a huge pain in my balls. Game ended 9-6 with me on top. Heres some highlights.
Deployed swarmlord, mawloc, gaunts and gargoyles in my back corner and everything else went into reserve. Stealers outflanked others deep struck. This was a big mistake, as his shooting could not have hurt me one big and if stuff was on the table I could have dealt a crippling counter attack. Im also so used to everything with reserve in mechdar that its hard to get away from that.
I was shocked by how fast orks moved too, when I cant run away from them. Playing mechdar exclusively for 6 months gets you used to speed.
He moved up full speed and swept both my gaunts and gargoyles with 3 boyz squads. My turn 2, went second as initiative was seized. one squad of stealers, trygon, zoeys, and fex show up. Mawloc lands between 2 wagons and a trukk, scatters 9 and stuns a wagon. Trygon shoots and immobilizes a truck that had just showed up. Carnifex shot 12 boyz who couldnt charge and killed 3 , they went to ground to not get entirely wiped out. Swarmlord messes up some boyz, termagaunts lose to boyz but kill most of the mob.
It ended up 9-6 in my favor. Highlights were swarmlord and friends with 10 stealers wiping out a squad of 10 nobs after charge and resolution. Swarmlord is worth his weight in gold in hand to hand. S&F also killed off 2 mobs of boys, though thats kind of a given.
Genestealer outflank is still very valid. Just have to use them to pick on isolated units.
Trygon prime is an absolute monster, wrecked a trukk and then charged and killed all the boyz inside. Died to a nob charge, though failing 5 out of 8 armor saves helps with that.
The mawloc im impressed with, just for his resiliency. That 9 inch scatter killed, as well as me forgetting hit and run, other wise he would have reburrowed and beat up gak elsewhere. He got killed by 10 nobs.
Carnifex was actually very good. Had pretty good shooting. Stunned a wagon and exploded it in the next turn. Though is bio plasma never scattered less then 6 inches it always managed to kill something.
Overall im looking for a fun, non competitive army. Something that puts up a fight but isnt over the top. I think disruption nids as im calling them (trademark) are going to be a pretty good list meta wise.

Side armor shots. Pretty good rolling. The bio plasma scattered 9 and put 2 wounds on a nob squad.

Yes, this was a pretty messy game. First off, I'm probably not going to do the 20 nobz again, but it was pretty fun while it lasted, nobz did exactly what I expected them to do, wipe out Trygon/Mawlock, partly due to luck though, but they had a pile of attacks to throw, so someone will get unlucky at some point...swarmlord&co are another matter, instant-death sword is mean for nobz :( Stealers are still good, their stats are very high so it's hard to beat them in combat, even if they go last. My forcefield must have had a major malfunction this game because something like 6 or 8 bullets got through it and either stunned immobilized or otherwise stopped my transports. I also popped my waaagh early because I wanted to try and get all 36 boyz into combat at once, but I made bad run rolls, and then my waaagh was gone. Around turn 3 I tank shocked a spore pod.....what happens when you tank shock a spore pod? All in all great fun, I learned a lot about the new bugs, but I'm pretty sure IGtS learned more.

Spore pod is a MC that can not move, he will choose to make a death or glory to your vehicle ,which is an autohit S6 + 2D6 roll .
