im going to start a new army and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas other than CSM and orks. By the way i am not too keen on SM and Guard but like the idea of tyranids and necrons.

If your going with Necrons, there isn't to much variation in the builds. While they look awesome and their fun to play, they can get boring fairly fast.
Nids are awesome looking, but I dont know enough about the new codex. I would say between nids and crons, Nids have more options so you wont get nearly as bored.
You said no orks. I'm guessing you already have an ork army...why not make another ork build. There are SO many different builds for orks that are actually competitive...i would stick with them =)
