Hey everyone Im in a bit of a dilemma between choosing 1 of 3 different 40k armies, and was hoping i could get some opinions from people with previous experience playing with them, im really unable to decide between, Tyranids, Orks, and Chaos (Thousand Sons). i realise that Chaos is quite different from nids and orks. but i really enjoy all 3 armies. but with no real experience playing with either it makes it harder to decide. Can anyone offer any advice between the 3 as too which all in all is the more dominant army for gaming., id really appreciate it

IMO, I would pick 1k Sons, basically because every man and his dog has an ork or Nid army (me included).

Something needs to be said! Thousand Sons are terrible. They are bad. They do very little better than anything else. If you are going to built a Thousand Sons army, you will be using few actual Thousand Sons (and not just because they are prohibitively expensive). There are rumours it can be done, so if you think you are up to the task, do try.
Tyranids and Orks on the other hand are both incredible codicies. Hardly a bad choice in either book, which has the adverse effect of making it difficult to settle on an army archetype. Orks are generally more straight forward, while it is easier to built 'Nids with more indepth strategies.

Depends on how you want to play IMO. If your not a tourny type, and just enjoy blowing up gak with your buds and hanging out for a few hours, then go with whatever one grabs your attention the most. Read the fluff and whatnot, think about cool army ideas and conversions. Eventually one will pop out over the others, it always does. And when that happens, just go for it.
But if you plan on (even if only a few times a year) join a tourny, then the 1k sons arent a good idea. As soon as you throw your army against anyone who is half assed competitive, youll get creamed. I havnt read the new nids dex yet (as I havnt bought it fer the wife yet) so I cant tell you how good they are. But I can say that Orks, can be a real head kicker when played right.
There ya go 2 ideas for ya

Lets be clear though, if hes playing in a fun environment the 1k sons arnt THAT bad that he will get demolished every game. Its just against power lists that are broken down for point for point efficiency that youll struggle against.
I have Nids and Chaos Marines and both are fun in their own way, and a good friend of mine has orks and theyre also awesome. I definitely think those are the 3 most awesome armies youve chosen here, so you really cant go wrong with any of them.

Playing all but the nids i can tell you 1k sons are a very fun army to play as well as orks.
1k sons are an army that as has been said before not the greatest competitively but has its strengths but those are few and far between if you build this army i would recommend throwing regular CSMs with meltas and flamers to help fill some of the gaps. One fun thing to do with them is spam Gift of Chaos and get really close to the enemy and turn them into spawn which will hold them down for a turn or two. The best layout is using Winds of chaos though as it is a flamer template with no armor saves and glances tanks on a 4+.
Orks are the most versatile though and you can build several different competitive lists with them no problem. Just be sure they focus on doing one thing dont mix and match shooty with assaulty in competitive play.

Orks. Thousand Sons are cool looking, but expensive and not terribly effective. Starting a Nid army right now would just be hopping on the bandwagon, although probably a better choice than Tksons.
You can do anything with Orks, and get a good core for next to nothing because of Black Reach.
