This preview was much much much better.

The Cabal rule has the potential to be really good. Just the two that are mentioned are very spicy. The fact that you can pick to add the plus 1 after you roll is really cool. My Magnus list generates 16 points and non-Maguns generates 15 so plenty of points in both lists. I am liking this as our army wide rule.

Cult of Magic WL trait to me is a bit of a nerf, as +1 MW was really really good.

18 powers is really what we had before, but 6 were limited to the DP, so this is an improvement. We know one will be able to remove invulnerable saves, which is always money, so that is good.

The two legion command abilities are both good. I actually use a terminator sorcerer, and the 10 points to upgrade BS/WS/A will just replace the 10 I use to spend on a familiar.

Overall, I am super hyped for this release. Will it be Saturday already so we can get some big leaks!?!?!?!

Just from these basic reveals your codex looks at least ork power level, which imo should be the baseline for any dex.

So i expect Deathguard's magic brothers shall be seeing a lot of action.

Automated Rubric Marine of Tzeentch

So, must have more rubrics and SOT than cultist and tzaangors, all is dust is now purely for armour saves, and a few interesting strategies.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

Yea that all is dust Nerf seems unnecessary (well unless they have a base 4++, (which is still possible and they had that several editions ago). However, ignore moral is pretty good, especially for a big unit of SoT. I also really like the strat that reduces damage by one. There are certain times that will be game changing in making sure a bunch of D2/D3 attacks don't kill a whole model, and getting the +1 armor save when reduced to 1 damage.

Think about this as well. 10 man unit of SoT with the +1 Strength and then the +1 to wound will wound a T8 unit (Knights, etc.) on a 4+ with a -2. If the double fire Strat is still in the book, that is a lot of damage possibility from them against basically any unit in the game. Thrown in the spell that removes Invul and you are doing a good amount of damage.
"
We all basically knew the" can only take cultists or Tgors depending on number of Rubric/SoT" was coming. My list has 4 such units anyway, so not really a big deal.

Edit: Just realized SoT in cover will get a 3+ armor save against D1 ap-3 weapons. Reduce D2 to D1 and watch plasma just bounce.

I'm a bit sad all is dust didn't get changed. Sure the new damage reduction strat looks nice. But I had hoped for something a bit spicier

I also spotted something:

Each time an attack with a Damage characteristic of 1 is allocated to a model in this unit, add 1 to any saving throw made against that attack.

Is the wording for the "any" significant or is it simply up to norms for 9th ? Because if it works for invuln saves it'd be nice !

You are missing the new wording “any armor saving throw”. Does not apply to invul

In any case, we haven't seen the stats of Occult terminators or Rubrics. Maybe they come with 4++ invul standard. Or a 5++ but with a strategem available to further lower it to a 4++.

Wow...

https://www.goonhammer.com/the-goonhammer-review-of-codex-thousand-sons-9th-edition/

In the latest Goonhammer reivew of the new TS codex, Scarab occult terminators get obsec !!! That's... pretty huge!

Codex sounds pretty nice, nothing overpowered but a bit of a boost in power and lots more options. I love that the MVB got a boost too, I'll be cracking mine out again.

My only real disappointment is Magnus' survivability + loss of warpitime on him. There's not really any info on it in the goonhammer review, so does anyone who has seen any video reviews know exactly *what* we can do to keep him alive now? He's -1 damage but still T7 and capped at a 4++. To my mind that means he's still stuck in 'reserves or risk dying turn 1' mode, which *sucks*, and now when he does come on it doesn't sound like you can do much to make him tough. Last time I used him he was a terror until he failed to get his 3++ up, then it was goodnight vienna as usual.

On top of this it sounds like he's stuck with his piddly 3-damage attacks, and no sweep option, so Morty *eclipses* him in both resilience AND combat.

What I do like is that he sounds a lot more dangerous now in the psychic phase, and knowing all spells is absolutely fantastic. It's just not much good if he's dead :/

I believe I called this (not sure if it was on this forum) when DG 9th was released. I feared they would boost Magnus' psychic, but leave him too vulnerable to being blown off the board 'because resilience is not his schtick it's Mortys', and they appear to have made exactly that mistake.

Wow, I just read that the TS Rhinos get a 5++ invul save! That probably makes them one of the best Rhinos in the game now ! Plus they can have double inferno combi bolters, which sounds really tasty !!!

Wah, all the vehicles like Predator tanks, Vindicators and LR have a 5++ save for Tsons! That's pretty huge too!

Wow... Helldrake Claws do 2 damage normally, but becomes a flat 4 damage against enemy aircraft! The image of A Helldrake tearing apart another enemy aircraft is real and so good !!!!

Hope you're trolling 'cause all the vehicles with 5++ are still hugely irrelevant without core and bad weapons/point costs

I think the Rhino is a legitimate option with the invuln and inferno combis. I doubt it brings up the other CSM vehicles, especially since they're competing with the muuuuch improved daemon engines and Mutalith.

I feel bad looking at the new terminator data sheet. They get a 5++ from 2 different sources now, but normal rubrics also have the 5++ so your paying for an extra wound and cc abilities. This is nice of course, makes them better at killing, but compared to deathguard terms I don't see them being all THAT amazing unless I am missing something.

There's a ton of great psychic powers and relics, the datasheets are largely underwhelming. Rubrics still cost a ton for what they do and still compare poorly to plague marines - a unit DG doesn't even use much. Scarabs still are all-rounders that aren't particularly good at any one thing and not priced to move. Tzaangors are sad.

Spawn look like the best datasheet in the book to me, 115 points for 20 T5 wounds that you can put a 4++ from weaver, that for 1CP can be putting out an average of 35 S5 AP-2 2 damage attacks in melee (or 25 at AP-4 or rerolling wounds).

Mutaliths look decent, ditto maulerfiends. Heldrake still looks like overpriced garbage to me, maybe there's something I'm missing though since other people seem to think they're good now.

Magnus looks like junk, far too squishy for hits points. Ahriman still going to be in every list, 180 points for a 3 cast psyker who gets +1 to cast and rerolls every psychic test is awesome value.

Infernal Master that can halve something's movement and reduce its advance and charge by 3 is troll of the year material, though the rest of that cult sucks.

I believe its time to move to a new thread?

I'm still in progress of setting up, but I'm aiming for something far grander than this topic, in awe of this new codex I very much approve of.
