Subject: Frosting from undercoating in high humidity: How to fix?

As topic title says, I undercoated my Ork Battlewagon with Citadel Chaos Black spray, and some frosting has occurred. It's not that bad, only just the top part of the cabin has frosting that's bad enough to be noticeable. But I didnt expect it to occur, but I know it's cause of high humidity. My question is, how do I fix it? Do I just re-spray in better conditions?
Last time this happened to be, I ignored it and continued painting my Terminators. A heavy basecoat of foundation paint fixed most of it (or atleast made it alot less noticeable at the expense of smooth coats)

Hit it with a coat of gloss, let it dry for 24 hours then respray in better conditions.

Will ity make difference? Presumably you are going to be painting over the base coat anyway.

Maybe, maybe not. Last time I had frosting occur, it shows up in subsequent layers of paint.

Scratch it off with an old toothbrush and start again (if not enough paint left on)
It will still be there when you paint over it otherwise.

I was able to fix frosting (also on my battlewagon) by repainting with dullcote - not the spray. They also make a brush-on enamel. The original one was high humidity, the second one with the brush on was not, and it resolved it pretty much completely. Your mileage may vary.

Anytime you layer one more paint to fix a layer of paint that basicaly went on too thick or rough- you're risking a loss of detail.
Is it actual 'frosting' or did the paint end up with a rough grainy finish?

Does it look like cotton balls that comes off when rubbed or touched? If so it's because you held the can too far away and it partially dried before it landed on the model...this just recently happened to me with my genestealers. I let them soak for 2 days in this graffiti remover and scrubbed them with a brush.

Nah, cant remove it just by rubbing and touching it. Im pretty sure it actually is frosting (looks like frost), and Ive seen other examples of it from this site/other blogs. The odd thing about this frosting is that it's only occurred on the top of the cabin roof, where it's all flat and without detail (except the rivets), so adding on more painting wont really lose any detail anyways.

Doesnt sound like humidity- sounds more like a bad shake/mixin where too much of the medium part and not enough pigment made it out- was the top the last portion you sprayed?
High humidity usually causes texture problems with paint- and frosting problems with clear coats(notably flats that also arent shaken well.

The top was the first portion I sprayed, actually. Though come to think of it, this was a brand spankin' new can of paint, that I had just came home with. I was pretty damn sure I had shaken it for a good five minutes, but maybe that's where it all went wrong.
If that's the case I'll be wary of using the can again, and Ill be sure to give it an extra shake before use (aswell as a test piece/sprue).

It bein the first part was my second guess- but your problem usually happens towards the bottom of the can.
You may have shaken it well enough- but did you do the first spray out of the can off to the side- or right onto the tank? It sounds like whatever was inside the carrier tube was the culprit here- so just try to clear the tube before puttin the psint down on your model.
Id give it a test or two. That citadel paint isnt cheap. I wont use the stuff(so many better options out there), but Id hate to see it wasted after you paid for it.

Honestly, I dont remember. I might've sprayed it once into the air, then it went straight onto the tank (as well the Chaos dreadnought, which didnt suffer any problems). In any case, cheers for your input.

I had this same issue with a clear coat I was putting on a trukk. It sounded funny but I was told to put another coat of the clear coat on and funny thing...it fixed about 90% of the problem.
The rest I wrote off as an "oh well". It really wasnt that bad at that point. I think I may have done the "holding the can too far way" thing.
Good luck. I hope it works out for ya. =/
