I know this is probably a much asked question.. but I'm gonna go ahead and ask it anyway.

I currently play Orks, and while they are fun and all, I'm looking for a more serious army now. And really can't decide between Nid's (cause of the new codex and all) Tau and Witch Hunters. The less in common they have with how Orks play, the better.

So if people would be so nice to give some arguments why you prefer one army over the other etc. it would be much appreciated.

Tyranid is now strongest army in this universe because its new army.

Tau is SHOOOOOTY army which orks poor at. So diffrent kind army when compare ork.

Which Hunter is old codex army. Its fun army.....but balanced? I dont know. But "faith" is reallly fun system it seems.

I prefer Dark Angels(Fallen Angels) its cool back ground. And Ravenwing/Deathwing is fun.
Cool robed miniature. I know they are not strongest and maybe weakest. But I play, and I win.

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

You cant get to be more opposite the orks than Tau. Nids are pretty similar in the sense they are a horde army and excel in HtH. Last WH have some pretty neat things like faith points that always seem to screw me out of easy kills. Tau are an army you have to play with a delicate hand meaning you screw up you lose. To add they are a guerilla tactics type army. It is all about shooting the enemy and then run away and stay out of HtH as long as possible.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

Tau are the polar opposite of Orks in strategy, fluff and even appearance.

I think you perhaps need to revisit your orks.

40k is populated by armies with noticeable strengths and weaknesses. Ever play Final Fight for the SNES or any other video game where you choose one of three characters: Joe, the average stats. Hagar, the super strong dude who is slow. Random blond chick who is fast but not strong.

In 40k, things operate the same:
MEQ armies: Rounded and average.
Eldar/DE variants: Fast, weaker.
Tyranids: Eh..not sure.

Orks are none of those stereotypes. Instead, orks are a modular army. The entire codex has building blocks for different kind of armies, so that you can create an army list along any theme you like, for the gameplay style you choose. The fact that you're asking for a "serious" army now tells me that you haven't learned to play orks yet. Orks *are* the strongest army in the universe. If you're picking random units from the codex and cobbling them together into an unthemed list and losing - that's weak generalship, not a weak codex.

I think that you should keep your orks. Head over to the army list section and post the point level that you're playing and the list you're using. Let folks examine it. Go over to tactics and make some posts about how you run your orks. Let people comment.

I have no super claims to fame - I haven't been to any GTs yet (although I'm hitting four of them this year, whee!), but the experiences I do have up and down the east coast in RTTs and 'Ard Boyz, and any other tournament I can find is that Orks can stand up to pretty much anything because of their modular nature.

tl;dr:

Make your second army choice revisiting your first army.

*EDIT* And my first army was Tau. Orks can outshoot a Tau gunline. Orks can do anything that any other army can do, and do it better. Really.

Its not because of losses or anything like that, I just want something else to look at It's both for the game and for painting really, I need some diversity or I get bored with it (My orks haven't seen a lick of paint in almost 5 months) And i still have more then an AoBR off stuff left to paint, just can't be bothered to do so.

I personally would recommend Tau if you want something different than your Orks, but WitchHunters have alot of character, with lots of quirky options with assasin cults, sisters, and Inquisitors...so they are also very different than orks...

I would avoid Tyranids. Bandwagoner status aside, it would be another horde army to paint which, after Orks, you probably won't want to do.

Tau would be an interesting change of pace, but expect to lose a lot as their playstyle is much different from Orks, and far less forgiving.

I personally would love to have a SoB/witchhunter list, but they are long overdue for a codex revamp, so I'd be worried about committing a ton of money to units that may radically change. Being all-metal and limited in model variety means that you will likely run into a similar scenario for being "bored" with them before long as well.

Tau could be in the same boat, whenever they get revised (if ever). They are very tactically different from orks and, at least around here, you don't see them that often, so you could have some advantage through limited exposure.

Nids are somewhat different from orks. Still a predominantly close combat army, but at least they do it differently through a combination of horde and monstrous creatures. They would paint quickly, though you may have to convert some stuff if you want some of the units that don't currently have models available. The thing you get with Nids is that they are brand new and thus can be assured of a stable list for a couple years at least.

Dunno what to tell you. Maybe you can borrow a friends army or proxy and test them each out, see what clicks.

Eh nids are cake to paint. One scheme for the whole army. Dry brush, wash, drybrush again then your basically done.
