Hi everyone

I just finished painting two Sister of Battle squads and I thought I would post them here for coments and constructive criticism. But, I also have a question. Seeing as they're going to all be painted the same should I paint the rims of the bases to match the bases or should I paint them a different colour depending on their squad?

I guess I'll make it a poll

Thanks in advance for posting

The pictures have been cropped to cut out the blurry parts. It's been a while since I've taken any pictures of minis so I wasn't surprised when I didn't get it exactly right, but it improved as I went along.

The darker one on the left is the last one I painted, I liked how it looked (I had to use it in a game before I finished it) so instead of doing the rest of the steps to reach what the rest look like I finished that one up the way it was. That's what I'm planning on making the Celestrians look like, I'll add another SoB into that squad later.

Gold is a lot brighter here than it is in real life, I guess it's the flash and the Auto Adjusted images. But the rest look just like they do, so I guess it's not really a problem.

I would like a vibrant solid colour bordering it would be really distracting from the lovely paintjob on the models.

I voted paint the rims the colour of the base.

What about dark colours like scab red, regal blue and Dark Angels green?

Also thanks for the comment

Nice Sisters, n0t_u. I voted for consistent base colors, as well. I think different colored bases (even subdued colors, like you suggested) detract from the cohesiveness of a painted army. A couple sugestions that might work for keeping all your Sisters separated in the heat of battle could be to either use small decals or simply paint hash-marks (or similar) onto the backs of each base. They won't be visible during casual, tabletop inspection, but you'll be able to tell different squads apart fairly easily.

Your base should not draw your attentions away from your models. Just add something very small it each different squad to tell them apart. I do like you paint job on the sisters. Great work.

I voted painted to match the base.
Just do a little more modeling on the bases to define the squads.
Spent bolter cases on one squad, skulls/bones on another, razorwire on another, puddles on another etc etc
Or add different coloured scrapmetal to each squad?

These are just a few options and they are a little bit of work but it will look much more coherent and less distracting in the end.

Alright I'll paint the bases all the same colour then. I think I'll try using a combination of all the sugestions for making sure that the squads don't get mixed up.

Thanks for all the posts

*edit* On second thought, never mind. You already have a lot of solid suggestions here. I look forward to seeing the sisters ready for battle.

Well they're already Codex grey (finished painting them yesterday afternoon), which is what I drybrushed over black to make the bases. But, thanks for the suggestion anyway

I went with the hard mark idea, one squad has orange and the other has blue.
I just couldn't really find anywhere to put the water transfers onto the models without them looking too busy and crowded.

you may be able to get a small water transfer on the cloth of the right arm under the shoulder pads. thats the only place i can see that is the same on all the models, and has a flat surface

The Boltgun Metal looks very gritty, although not noticeable at first glance, detail freaks, like me go ARGH!, I suggest a thinned down Badab wash to help with this.
