I was going through the Necron units on GW's site, and I saw new looking Scarab swarm. My question is did they always look like that if you bought them outside of a box with warriors, or did they change without me knowing?
Did a search and didn't see anything on this forum, but idk.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

They're the original Scarab from 2nd Ed models that came 2 to a box (I believe) w/5 Necrons Warriors.

IIRC they were like Toughness 8 and just ate tanks.

Thanks. Never seen them before, and I got taken by surprise.

I hate to use the word cheesy, but they *were* in 2nd edition. They were T8 so virtually immune to small arms fire and benefited from the usual "I'll be back" rule and being 'small objects' there was a -1 modifier to hit and they could 'fly' meaning they could travel huge distances. They had no attack as such but when they landed on a vehicle they cumulatively deduct 3 points from the armour. If four of them landed on a Rhino it was -12, meaning even a bolter could now penetrate it. If enough landed on the vehicle and reduced the armour to zero I think the vehicle "disintergrated", ie explode. Sometimes the explosion didn't even have the fortune to kill the scarabs.

And, if I recall correctly, they *didn't* count towards Necron losses for them to 'beam out' and lose the game. So even if you did somehow destroy one you were no closer to winning and if your luck turned bad they could come back to life.

And Destroyers were Necron dudes reclining on a Hoverrround that actually hovers with a big pointy gun next to him.

Playing Space Marine demo while GF was scrapbooking:
Me: I can turn it down, if the screams of dying orks are annoying you.
Her: That's ok, I love hearing the screams of dying orks.

My armies (W-D-L):
2,000 (about 1,200 painted and now I'm feeling the call of Russ) 3-4-3
2,000 (about 1,000 painted, WiP) 0-1

I remember those. Nothing better than Necrons on Lay-Z-Boys flying around.

I'm still using the 2nd edition models for my Necron army. (Pics of various bits of it here

Have various plans that I'm working on for a scratch-built monolith to fit in with them...

I'd certainly be interested in seeing that, I actually prefer the 2nd edition Necrons to the current ones.
