Pretty simple:

Whats the best wpn for the nid drop pod? I was thinking the str 5 ap - large blast one.

Suggestions?

I came to the conclusion that the twin-linked Deathspitter offered a pretty good compromise (Str 5 to pen AV10 / glance AV11 / hurt infantry, twin-linked to compensate for BS2, no blast to scatter onto your own units).

Nothing. BS2 is pretty terrible, they must shoot at the nearest enemy unit which might as well be a vehicle your not likely to damage, you don't want a blast scattering back onto your own units since you have to shoot at the nearest unit and pod gets punked by the first strength 8 ap4 shot that wounds it.

I disagree with Kirika here, sorry. Yes, you have to shoot the nearest target, BUT you get to place the model when they deepstrike thus you get to dictate what is the closest model.

The deathspitter isnt terrible, but if you need/want gobs of s5 shots to put results on vehicles, there are better options (warriors!)

The cluster spines provide anti-horde shooting, they can still hurt vehicles with s5, and the chance of it scattering on top of a vulnerable unit is pretty slim. I think people are way too paranoid about blast weapons.

I say cluster spines all the way.
