This is a twin thread to the one I have in the 40k army list section. That one deals with what I should have in my army, this one deals with what it should look like.
At the moment I have not painted a single model for the army. My trouble is I'm looking for a colour scheme. I've tried a WWII german green scheme, didn't like it. I've tried a grey scheme, didn't like it and I've tried a two tone green scheme and I didn't like that. The trouble is I haven't really got a coherant theme for the army yet. I has going to go to with a snow world look from the ice world Orichalcum Monachus VIII. But then I will need ice world terrain boards for it to look any good and as this army will properly debute in the Kent tournament there won't be ice world themed table (I'm guessing).
So what theme should I go for? I like the idea of a 'British' looking army. But then I've got Cadian Guardsmen at the moment and I'm not sure if they are the right models to use. If I do go for a British look I will either paint the Cadians in brown overalls with Red army which will match the officers uniforms, or I will get some Mordian Guard models.
Has anyone else painted an army along similar lines?
But then I come to my storm troopers. I'm using the bio-chem squad models from Copplestone Castings (http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/range.php?range=FW) obviously these won't want to be red, but what colour? I'm thinking either midnight blue of a camoflage that matches the bases they are on.
So, yes, ideas please. And as soon as I have any models I will put them up here.

Here is the first model of the army. His eyes look a bit starey but other than that I'm not too displeased.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

If you want something different: here's the desert camo I use for my penal legion. It's not hard to do, just requires some patience and a (relatively) steady hand:

A Squeaky Waaagh!!

Camkhieri: "And another very cool thing, my phones predictive text actually gave me chicken as an option after typing robot, how cool is that."'

Meercat: "All eyes turned to the horizon and beheld, in lonely and menacing grandeur, the silhouette of a single Grot robot chicken; a portent of evil days to come."

The skintone is too close to the clothtone, you need some more contrast on your penal troopers.

Other than that this looks promising...

Making IG look more modern just requires some trimming. Things like shoulder pads and those little tabs on the helmets take away from the models aesthetic. As far as desert schemes, simplicity is usually the best route. With a slightly different color scheme, the models I did for the Blackhawk Down army could easily be changed to british by doing the brit 3-color desert (I think, it maybe a 4-color).
