what games are the most popular in Orlando? I haven't decided yet whether or not i'm gonna go for WHFB, WH40K or LotR yet so I wanna find out what is the most popular in this area. If this isn't the proper forum for this sorry.

Paladin Games has recently started their 40k community as of last year and are mostly beginners. But they do have a good LotR following.

well I live over in Clermont but I go to Valencia East so i'm close to Sci-Fi. all of the GW games interest me but I'm a budget so I gotta pick one. I got about 3 friends that play, all of which play 40k but never go to any of the stores that sell the stuff. We got a store in Clermont but they don't sell GW stuff.

id definitely say go to paladin, or failing that rhubarb, the guys at scifi are total dicks, that hasnt changed in almost 9 years since i started going there.

Paladin is awesome though, not the most gaming area, but tables enough for 4 in the room in the rear and then the realm of battle board in the middle, lots of good terrain, great prices (stuff is almost always lower than msrp) with discounts for joining a warhammer or lotr league.

Rhubarb has a great WM/Hordes community and very friendly towards new gamers.

I havent seen Paladin's WM/Hordes community but they do have an active one.

Those two stores are my top pics and a close 3rd is Coliseum of Comics.

Sci-Fi has a very cliquish crowd with them which gives off the feeling of them being not so friendly towards outsiders.

Really? Even though my regular game store is Sci-Fi, it's totally uncalled for to call anybody that.

Hod put together a pretty good listing of the stores in our area.

Rhubarb Games - They have a pretty strong community, though I have seen that they are switching more from 40k to being more heavy into Warmachine and Hordes. No Problem with that it is just harder to get 40k games in there now (one of the regular Rhubarb players started going to Sci-Fi more often). It has been a while since their last big 40k RTT.

Sci-fi - My regular store has it's own issues due to upper management, but we have an excellent person running the tournaments right now, and you can almost always get a game in. I can admit I tend to be picky who I get a game in with, but IMHO, Sci-Fi has the best 40k tournaments right now (which I base off of feedback on the regular "tournament hoppers").

Paladin Games - I have not personally been too often, but I have heard great things. They are a little on the small side, but they tend to run their tournaments on Sunday's so it is easy to get games in there.

Coliseum of Comics - Heard good things about that community as well. A friend of mine was really active there before he moved north.

Pheonix Games - Is a great store and IMHO has the best management of all the stores I have been to. The are a little far from you, and their 40k community is in its infancy, but you always feel very welcome and at home. I just ran the tournament over there last week, and they couldn't have been nicer. Here is my report from running the tournament:

Orlando is a great place for 40k. The best part about Orlando is that you have multiple stores running tournaments and rarely there is an overlap, so you could literally play in a tournament almost every week if you are willing to travel (and there is a strong community around here who does so). If you are looking for a game, I will be at Sci-Fi on Saturday, you can swing by and call me a dick to my face or something, I will say fair enough, and then we can throw down.

I'm guessing things have changed quite a bit in the last ~10 years. My first trip to the store i was looking for a birthday gift for my niece and they were more than helpful, and my second reintroduced me to 40k. I've had nothing but positive experiences from both the staff and gamers i've met.

New Year, New Army - 40k Escalation League

The entry fee to play is $20 for the entirety of the league. League participants are being offered a 10% discount on any “Start Collecting” army box and codex as well as 1 bonus stamp for purchases on other GW boxed models at the store. The league will meet and play on the last Saturday of each month according to the following schedule:

500 points January 25th ("Start Collecting" gift card raffle)

750 points February 29th

1000 points March 28th (Midpoint voting and prize distribution)

1250 points April 25th

1500 points May 30th

1750 points June 27th

2000 points July 25th (End of league voting and prize distribution)

The emphasis of this league will be on easing new players into the game and encouraging veteran players to either build a new army or to paint up and use units they’ve neglected for more competitive events. To encourage the focus on helping others learn the game and experimenting with different units, prizes will be awarded based on meeting the painting deadlines, bringing a fun/narrative army, and showing good sportsmanship instead of on someone’s number of wins or points earned per game.

Every league meeting date, a terrain kit will be raffled off from the site https://www.bigbear3d.net/shop This is also the manufacturer of the chainsword and bolter replica prizes that are up for grabs the last week of the league, so it’s a good site to know if you want some customized loot of your own.

Additionally, one lucky member will win a free “Start Collecting" gift card the very first week of the league to give a league participant a head start on assembling a new army.

Each month that a player attends with their newly painted army will earn them a raffle ticket for drawings at both the midpoint (March 28th) and end (July 25th) of the league. Playing a game is not required to earn the raffle ticket, so if you have a busy weekend you can just swing by and show your newly painted force. Raffle prizes come from a selected variety of GW kits that players can select from.

A separate prize pool will include a replica bolter, a replica chainsword, and multiple $50 gift certificates. These prizes will be awarded at the end of the league for winning “best painted”, “favorite/fluffiest army”, and “favorite opponent” as voted on by league participants. The number of gift certificates awarded will depend on the number of players enrolled in the league, so there could be prizes awarded to both 1st and 2nd place for each category, for example. Some of the gift certificates will also be awarded by votes at the midpoint (March 28th) of the league for the same “best painted”, “favorite/fluffiest army”, and “favorite opponent” categories.

Pairings each week will be done by randomly drawing table numbers out of a bag. Players are welcome to pair up on their own ahead of time instead of being assigned a random opponent and table though.

To help newer players learn the various mission types and to encourage veteran players to play missions they haven’t done in a while, there will be recommended missions each week of the league. Players are also welcome to choose their own mission if both players agree to do so since scoring discrepancies between tables will not affect any rankings or prizes.

For clarity, there are no unit restrictions for playing in this league. You may bring any GW unit including forgeworld units, legends units, lords of war, and special characters. That said, please remember the focus of this event is to bring something that is fun and maybe a little bit different for both you and your opponent and that you will earn nothing for having a winning record.
