Hope these toads don't jump, otherwise they will be rider-less pretty quickly.

Idea is neat and an easy way to have all sorts of cavalry, but the small "howdah" would look better on a beast that is more heavy and straightforward, like giant crawling insects or four legged lizards.

Actually there was quite some discussion on the design of our wartoads. In the end we opted for a more generic take on their saddles, given these can be used with miniatures from other brands too.
Spoiler:

Plastic wolf cavalry of the Drotts (Common Goblins) will instead have the same designs we had shown in past.

The howdah is indeed directed exactly as you say: " it would look better on a beast that is more heavy and straightforward".
Our Mountain Orcs, Drotts (Common Goblins) and Drottchins (Sci-Fi Goblins) all have their own separate beasts with howdah. Here's a sneak peak :-)

If there was a "rail" in front so you could model the goblin holding on, it might look more convincing. Impressed with these miniatures, I think I will be putting an order in.

If others think the same, that can be a very very easy insertion to the already sculpted miniature.

To be pedantic, frogs jump, toads walk, so your goblin is pretty safe.

Having said that, I don't particularly like the platform, a saddle would look more natural I think. Or ride bareback, it's basically a squig based beast is it not?

Jumping or walking, as long there are Goblins riding them I am fine ;-)

I am really waiting for this Kickstarter :-)

I think that goblin is compensating for something. That's a huge sword/lance.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

All types of weaponry will be included in the kit this time.
Here are some of the spears and bows too.

Firstly, and most importantly - my condolences. I'm not on Dakka much anymore, so I just saw this now.

On the goblins, sadly, my trust and "like" for Shieldwolf was severely eroded by the way that you guys handled the whole Sisters thing. Particularly the reluctance to show people what they would actually be getting for their money aside from random renders of random parts, many not even shown here. Which is why I didn't pre-order.

Well now you can just order the sisters and see exactly what you will have. Happy ?

Coming back to the goblins, the weapons look indeed big for goblins but I'll reserve my final judgment when more pictures will be revealed. Maybe it's just the angle here, after all.

Liking the howdah !

I'd say you missed the point, but I know you're entirely aware of it and just chose to make a snide remark. It was, however, valid feedback to Shieldwolf and something I'd hope they can bear in mind with future campaigns, whether they be actual Kickstarters or "pre-orders".

Here I agree with you. I'd take it a step further and suggest that if the whole "looted weapons" is going to be a thing, then instead of designing the Goblins in what appears to be a vacuum with large, cartoony but haggard weapons, the "looted weapons" could actually include many of the exact weapon designs found on the Shieldmaidens, the Sisters, the Mountain orcs and so forth - including the concept art for the other future races and factions like the "Male" barbarians, etc - and you can of course still damage them up a little if required.

But, to use another tabletop gaming example, a 40k Ork with a Space Marine Bolter, IG Lasgun, Shuriken Catapult, Leman Russ Tank, clear has the looted thing going on because you can see that the weapons have a different origin to the standard "Orkish" style. If Tallareum is going to have its own unique fantasy ecology of races with heir own unique looks of weapons, arms and armour then why not use those designs as the basis of "looted weapons"? Doing so would help to give your world its own internal consistency. Of course not all of their weapons would have to have an obvious origin, but, well, "looted" should take some note of who they were looted from.

First let me thank you as we appreciate the interactiona dn feedback. The relaunch is way better prepared compared to the first project; this time we have sculpted everything that will be included in the final sprues so things are crystal clear, apart from us augmenting the cofunding of the project itself. I think you'll be pleased to know there's an abundance of primitive looking weaponry, but we also took care of adding abbandoned, looted, broken weaponry to capture the essence of the Goblins arming themselves with whatever possible. If it's good enough to kill, it's good enough to bring to the battlefield.
If this doesn't convince you, hopefully the common and/or sci-fi goblins will have better luck, but Forest Goblins were promised first and we always keep our word.

Thanks for taking the time to write your reply. I think the primitive weapons look like a tech level much closer to what I had in mind, and that’s great to see, but they’re too big for my tastes (I know this is going to sound a bit like goldilocks-style complaining on my behalf). Those spear tips are the size i’d expect a goblin great weapon to be, even given heroic scale. Hope for your sake that this project appeals to enough others though!

We know how fondly you've supported our company in the past, and the appreciation will be remembered even if the support does not continue. That said, the quote above is a highly unfair accusation Azazelx, which I could never let it pass uncommented. Let's not confuse integrity with what you are saying above. Did the company have enough money to fund 6 armies instead of 2 (actually 7, if we count the Warmaidens)? No. Did we create them all the same? Again, (obviously) no. Why? Well, simple, we don't have enough funds, that's why we went to Kickstarter in the first place. Did Shieldwolf Miniatures lose money in all this? Hundreds of hours of work, sculpts we paid for but have never been put into production (therefore still not returned a single dime), banners spread all over for 2-3 weeks in major sites, etc etc. Oh yes, you bet we did. Did the company secure that not a single backer lost theirs? Yeah, we all know the answer to that. We sure did, it's an undisputed priority. Nobody has ever lost money backing our projects. It means something to us. We call it integrity and it will escort us as long as we exist. Perhaps we have different definition on what integrity is. Fair enough. To each their own. But being accused of not delivering something we never took money for or for producing something we said we didn't have money for...? Nope. It has never happened! :-)

We have designed 12 major races and another 15 mercenary factions. We haven't shown but a fraction of what our world consists of. Some of the spears are from the Maagrats (rat people, mercenary faction) and some others are from the Warriors of Gluttony (heavy armored warriors; Undead, a major race) with whom the Goblins border to the East. The Goblins themselves are a mercenary and not a major race also. But we have stopped promoting our game as much as we wanted to after the huge shoutout we received in our Orcs vs Shieldmaidens Kickstarter, where people had no interest (or even missed entirely!) that they were funding a game and not simply miniatures. Until the miniature range isn't much larger, we dare not go back to that. That's also where additional funds are found, some people have no idea what good quality artwork costs and we are certainly sparing no expenses on that.

It was more meant as a joke, to be honest. I didn't pre-order the sisters as well - though it's mostly because I had way too many sisters from GW at that time and didn't want to start another new army while I have so many projects still on the fire.

Thanks for the explanation, it makes indeed more sense that way ! True, when you see those goblins, some people (including myself, I admit) have other famous forest goblins in mind and tend to "expect" the same design by default. Your choice is honorable and it's indeed sad to see that trend. A lot of backers on Kickstarters do not know what is behind the projects, especially the real costs - and some just expect to have as many miniatures as they can for the lowest price. It goes to a stupid point sometimes, with vocal people claiming they know The Truth and make unreasonnable demands. I hope this Kickstarter will go well for you, but yeah, I kinda expect that kind of reaction nonetheless.

I personally find the larger hammers fit the not-GW aesthetic better, but I can see your point. Although it's a drag, it should be fairly straight forward to clip off the heads and replace them with hammer heads from historical kits. They also have a mace and a torch that are less massive, although not enough to equip more than a few of the sisters.

For some reason you've attempted to put a rather large paragraph worth of words and various accusations in my mouth that I didn't say. All the "fund six armies two armies integrity" is just irrelevant warblegarble as it is entirely unrelated to what I said. I'd appreciate it if you would take your own advice and not accuse people of saying things that they did not say. .

While I am aware that English is not your native language, I'm also aware that your staff members' English is consistently excellent on here, so I usually treat you guys as though you were native speakers. In case there was some confusion, however, I'll restate my complaint - whicj is actually nothing to do with the aborted KS campaign, but the "pre-order" campaign that happened later for the Sisters.

I did not like the way that during the pre-order period you were incredibly reticent and reluctant to show off meaningful renders, of models, parts, heads, sprue layouts, etc while soliciting people's money in a contact of the designs being pretty much done. Instead choosing to show occasional piecemeal renders of parts and also the occasional render of a whole-model from an incredibly odd perspective, often a forced perspective. It also appeared that you "gave up" on Dakka for a significant period, as renders and images were posted on Facebook, but not this forum. (As I personally looked for them and linked them here).
Clear enough?

The non-spoilered part is the relevant bit, and actually all you needed to say to any of us from the beginning. These looted weapons use designs taken from our other as-yet unreleased armies.
There you go! Context that answers the question.
Easy peasy.

Fair enough @Azazelx. I did misunderstand what you said. On the other part, we did find ourselves uneasy (if that's the correct term) at a while at dakka but certainly always will interact here, we found we had to explain ourselves for things that shouldn't have been a matter in the first place (I am referring to the Shieldmaidens spears issue). That's the reason we chose to be very careful at showing anything on the paladins that could have for some/any reason not been put on the sprues.

For the Goblins project however, everything shown will be produced. With the chance, here are some of the shields for the Forest Goblins sprue. For the Drotts (Common Goblins) and the Drottchins (Sci-Fi Goblins) we will also be revealing information on February prior to launch.
We are currently working on making available a draft KS page to get feedback prior to launch, something we have never done before in our previous projects. Hopefully it's going to help.
We are already taking into examination feedback on the right handed bows. We find it a cool touch, some might not however. And this is created by everyone involved, so we are looking back into it.

I really like the overall look of the forest goblins, but will add my voice to the choir saying the weapons are too large. I think it's the breadth more than anything; but as-is the impression I get is that the goblins are really strong, which seems against type.

I very much like the idea a poster above mentioned, of the goblins using weapons looted from your other ranges.

On the weapons, the idea of the Goblins wielding outsized weapons makes sense if they have looted them, but the limitations of posing for plastic kits with multiple configurations means that the poses cannot show the goblins staggering under the weight of their (to them) gigantic stolen goods, or wielding a normal longsword/axe two handed. So instead it looks like they are hefting heavy weapons one handed.

Does not bother me too much, I would probably go for a different option with them or use smaller weapons from my Celts and Vikings, but I think that is the issue with implementaiton of a good concept into a slightly more limited medium.

I am super happy that these goblins are being produced. I checked out your Goblin Warlord on giant wolf, and he looks awesome. Is there any plan for a unit of Goblin Wolf riders in hard plastic in a similar style?

Aye. The problem for me is that the GW riders are no longer in production, and I would like to increase my horde. Should not have procrastinated, I just thought they might release updated models rather than scrapping the old ones!

I have the Red Box Games ones, but I have those based on 40mm rounds for use in LOTR. I could rebase I suppose!

Yes there is, but we first want to first fund the infantry kits.
Here's a very rough teaser to get the main idea, the wolf cavalry is their "light" cavalry, the heavy one is the Wartoad cavalry (on 50mm bases, either round or square to choose from). Funding the infantry kits gets priority however. We are also unsure yet if we want to hand the wolves over to the Forest or the Drotts (Common Goblins), some people may already have their own main idea in their heads but lorewise we desire to have it fit into our wolrd instead. Regardless, this is still about miniatures and not our own game.

I think that Da Boss made a good point about why the large weapons look so off for the goblins. I agree that they are too large.

I hope you take the feedback on board, as it seems to be a sticking point for many potential backers.
