Still astounded at the detail you get on the smallest of minis! to me it looks flawless and perfectly done, the berets are really great as a spot colour.

@Nerdfest09: Thanks very much! Well, it's 28mm figures, so the detail's all there. I got overwhelmingly positive feedback on these figures online so far, but a handful of people mentioned the colour of the berets being wrong. Which it is. Should be darker; more maroon in look. I painted a test mini and originally did a darker beret, but it just didn't work on the table. Apart from that - the red beret is their trademark, and it looks way more impressive with the bright red berets on the table (also keep in mind the worse lighting and darker context on the table).
Yar, I'M back from VIVAT and have recovered. It was really good a show this year (once more). Many more visitors than last year, which is great. Bunch of good chats with people. I'll write a report as soon as possible (which I'M looking forward to, becaue I think tables have been the best so far this year), but as I said: we're moving house, so things are a bit chaotic here. Especially as this week I'm moving The Workshop-ski. Next things on the list to sort out: More work on the Orks and some 6mm historical goodness.
So yeah, the next photos of minis you see probably will be taken at my new abode.
Soldiers look great. Even with their "shoot-me" red berets.

Trying to slip back into my regular work schedule, and here's an Orky update on the Goffs:
Haven't moved the proper photo setup here yet, hence the weird half-and-half background. :p Anyway, silvery metallics are done, checkerboard pattern bits are done, clothes are done and most of the damaged paintjob effect. Next I'll do the copper-colored metallics (mostly CCW handles and some details) plus weathering, after that I guess I'll have to tackle teeth and horns and after that it's the rest of the details for me!
Awesome stuff, Siggy! Virago's Blood Angles from the previous page are really nice. Proper stompy Orks too, keep up the good work and don't forget to WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!
Well, I'm starting to settle into the new surroundings, got the essentials set up and decided to test a few new photo setups. Here's the finished Orks, a total of 61 Boyz and 2 Nobz:
@Gitsplitta: Thanks very much! Means a lot coming from an Ork Connaisseur like yourself.
@Cosmetic: Cheers!
G'day, ladies and gentlemen!
Last Wednesday we had the annual pre-christmas meet-up of the historical wargamers to have a big old game set in the American Civil War. We chose the Black Powder rules (as a sort of lowest common denominator, in the best sense of the word ). I hadn't played BP up to that night before, so it was a good occasion to dust off the rulebook and have a go.
We played a scenario from the Glory Hallelujah supplement. 3 big Confederate and 3 smaller Union brigades on the table; the rebels got a cavalry brigade as reserve at turn#4, the Union has a big brigade as reserve popping up from any table edge after turn#2. The Tabletop Wien West dudes were present, as always when it comes to historical wargaming and one after another the other usual suspects trickled in as well. I was late myself (because I'd met with a customer before that and we chatted.), so none of my minis made it on the table. The cool thing is that in our general area a lot of people have a LOT of 28mm ACW stuff.
On the other tables there was the usual club business (warmahordes, star wars armada, a bit of x-wing, a bit of 40k), but our ACW table of course was the big eye catcher.
The cool thing is that we tested Black Powder in the perfect BP-situation: multiplayer club game with the goal of getting a satisfying game in before the pub closes.
A few impressions:
The rebel army center
At the rebels' right flank brigade general Nikfu's Ne'er-do-Wells advance en masse.
The same situation from the other side of the table. Spoiler: it was quite a bloodbath. Also, look at that huge siege mortar in the back (at the centre of the table :O ).
The other end of the Union lines was held (at that point) by Cpt.Shandy and his slightly understaffed brigade.
Due to me basically just standing around I got to command the 4th union brigade. The one that was supposed to pop up as reserve and save the day. Prestigious!
A picture of what my brigade would have looked like:
Everything's there: 4 regiments of infantry, a battery of 6 guns and even a small squadron of cavalry!
A picture of the hill I should have stormed across to help out Cpt.Shandy at his flank and unto glory:
A visual representation of what actually happened on the table:
For 2 turns after my brigade was to show up I messed up command rolls, so until the end of the game not a single one of my units showed up. To be fair, James' centre command of the rebels' army did barely a thing all game long either. That's Black Powder and this is why we love it.
The Union's commander in chief observing the problematic situation at his left while Cpt.Shandy's flank to his right is about to collapse. Oh, and the reserve (see above) decided not to show up at all! The things commanders have to put up with...
In the end Virago's rebel cavalry brigade popped up, stormed up a hill, destroyed the Union's artillery battery and sealed the fate of Cpt.Shandy's flank. At that point it was time to call it a night and pronounce the Confederates the victors!
Black Powder is good, good fun and works perfect for such multi-player games. Sure, it's written specifically for the table the Perrys have. No idea how people play this game with 28mm figures of all things on 6' by 4' tables. I just can't see it making a lot of sense.
Either way, good game, fun times, fast and fun.
Lateron I spent all my penned up energy (after not getting to do anything on the table) to finish painting and basing the last few dismounted rebel cavalrymen (Sash&Saber miniatures) and the civilian lady (Redoubt)!
Initially I wasn't a huge fan of going blue with the umbrella, but some people suggested it online. And I have to say that you were right. Looks very pleasing I think.
Hope you like them!
Oh, and in January we'll do a big Longstreet demo too. Just to check out how that works with multiplayer games. Because in a regular 1-on-1 it surely is the rules of my choice for ACW battles.

Great job on the Orkses and the soldier-dudes. But yeah, I recon that lady could have any of them in a fight.

@Gitsplitta: She's perfectly fine, it's just the nice colours that make her look a bit ...spatially prominent. Well, it's also the fact that the Sash&Saber dudes are rather on the lean and smaller side.
@Dysartes: Yeah, well, it wasn't my minis anyway. Just feel bad for the other Union commanders whom I kinda let down.
@Dr H: Thanks very much for commenting, even on stuff that's just soldier dudes and whatnot.
Still moving stuff from the old to the new house, so I took the opportunity to take a shot of a pile of niceities:
Hope you like it!

One exception: The Dwarf Warriors in fact contain metal Tallarns and a few Space Marines characters. The IG tanks are built and painted to some extent as well. The plastic Orks box in the left contains an unholy amount of 1st/2nd edition Orks (and weighs a ton), the Orks box in the right contains plastic bitz from the very box. The Rhino's still on sprues and includes decals, manowar's unpunched and all mint, because I never had a reason to do anything with it. Sadly, my regular gaming buddy sold his Manowar collection a while before I got the base game. D'oh.
That pile of boxes is an archaeological find of old GW products. Looks like you have been playing and collecting for as many years as I have Sigur. Will you ever finish them all or are you like me and have a pile of unpainted minis gathering dust?

@Yorkright: Well....honestly... no, I won't. But every wargamer has a lead/plastic/resin pile of varying sizes, right? I just took stock and I realized that I have WAY too much stuff, unpainted AND painted.
@Yorkright: Thanks very much! Yeah, the painting style I use usually is dictated by the models (and customer requests of course). The cool thing is that on these models you can go crazy with colour and turn up the brightness of colours used.
Another WIP shot of the latest batch:
Hope you like them and have a happy second advent weekend!

Hi peeps, I'm doing the new Guild Ball team - the Blacksmith's Guild (and some terrain)!
These are just early WIP shots of course. Problem is that I have a rather tight deadline on those figures (Dec, 20th. Yikes!) The Blacksmiths are going to be extra-dark in theme, so that helps painting time wise. :p

@SlaveToDorkness: O hai, haven't seen you in a while. Last weekend a few friends and I did an overnight trip into the countryside to have a look at a Krampuslauf. The peeps in that picture are the lovely young lads and lasses of Dyonisus Pass, a club of people who make the costumes and travel towns around Dec.5th (Krampus day) to partake in parades/runs. Basically ancient tradition stuff in which people put on huge, wood-carved masks, goat skins and such for miming evil winter spirits (or dressing up to shoo out said spirits) by flailing with whips and sticks, bang cowbells together and generally make a huge ruckus (generally that was the young men of the village, boozed up and being rather violent due to anonymity of the masks and ..well, the booze). Usually a few days after that people with pretty masks did a similar parade (all in villages across alpine regions, of course often with very specific individual traditions based on from which valley people came from) to calm things down again. That stuff got a lot less wild (and especially less violent, at least in larger towns) over the past decades, mask making got much more refined and it draws a LOT of tourists. The cool thing is that many young people seem to participate in the whole thing, girls are allowed now as well (which I'm sure took a while) and that it seems like modern influences are allowed. Basically anything goes as long as a few basics are covered (horns, fur, cowbells, masks). As I said, it's really popular, these groups get a lot of bookings around that time of the year, and it's not crusty with traditions or all too harsh rules it seems. Good fun.
