monkeytroll wrote:Always good to see some rivet action

Thanks.
It's been quite a major job to get this dozer to this stage and the other dozer looks like it's going to be more work.
I also think I need to pick up some thinner plasticard to do what I plan for it, so next time I am in the mood to spend some money I'll order some in. So that will also delay it a bit.

Red Harvest wrote:Don't exhaust yourself on it then, the dozer part. Everything is coming along nicely. And good to hear you anticipated the tracks.
Thanks Red.
Not exhausted, just need a change of job. Although I do have the bathroom items on the go, I feel like doing something else on the tank (and need to pick up the aforementioned plasticard). I may even cut the tracks off the sprue and have a look at them next... and there's this rear door to look at... and a couple of other details as well... (what was that about ever-growing to-do lists...).

Page 95... and in the last 5 pages I've done... a dozer blade... The rest of the tank in 5 pages??? Probably not...
I have got a long piece of fluff on the boil as a treat for page 100... as a backup... yeah, backup. I wonder if I can get this tank finished before page 200...

The tracks have been added to the tank, in more ways than one, but without any changes. These will be one of the few original parts left on the tank.

The braces are some odd bits I acquired in some left over sewing parts. This was the first thing I thought of when I saw them.

They really were a perfect fit. The width was perfect to reach across the tracks and the thickness of the bands fit perfectly between the treads. They were only slightly imperfect in the depth, but pieces of plasticard have been added so that they do reach to the door.

I have also added rivets into the holes in the metal and that completes them nicely.

Well, I've actually sat here looking at it and there is surprisingly little I can think needs adding now.
The second dozer needs work, but isn't really holding things up.

I'm going to leave the mini-dozers off. I just can't see a nice way to add them.

I did look for something to add as ears (just for you, Graven), but could not find anything that wouldn't look silly. I will find a way to represent them in painting.

And everything else on my list of what I thought could be added, will not fit on the tank. So will be saved for future vehicles.

Camkierhi wrote:Got to say it is looking pretty amazing. By the time you get some paint on it, this will be out of this world.
Thanks Cam. Kind words make me happy.

So, apart from the second dozer (that I will get around to when I've bought some plastic), can anyone think of anything that I've forgotten?

In other news; I've mentioned it before, but with the passing of H. R. Giger, went an artist that I greatly admired and would have even considered commissioning him for some art one day (if I happened to acquire loads of money somewhere).
I therefore decided to change my original plan for the tank-art on this tank to a homage to his work... fine.

Little did I know that the following weeks would bring the deaths of Rik Mayall (so I considered a small homage for him), then the voice of Shaggy (Casey Kasem) and the voice of Captain Scarlet (Francis Matthews) and now Nursie (Patsy Byrne)... There's just not enough room on the tank...

Big respect to them and RIP. They all added to my upbringing (for better or worse ).

Thanks Chaps.

I think we shall call the build done (except for the second dozer which will be done soon... ish).

List of additions and changes:
Extra armour added to the turret,
Smoke launchers added to turret,
Co-axial machine gun (counts as storm bolter) added to turret,
Radar dome added to turret,
Functioning hatches added to turret and hull,
Raised roof section (to accommodate the taller than average gunner),
Removed front rhino exhausts,
Added exhaust pipes to rear,
Scratch-built sponsons with movable guns,
Targeting cameras added to sponsons,
Small "datasafe", ejectable camera added to right sponson,
Bedroll/camo' sheet/"raw material" retrieval bags added as a roll with straps,
Storage boxes / tank phone box and vents added to sponsons,
Front facing of tank hull re-built with working hatch and spotlight "eyes",
Spare treads added to rear door,
Many rivets added or replaced,
And (nearly) two scratch-built dozer blades, complete with pistons etc...

All that surrounding all that I did on the inside.

I'm left with that feeling that something is missing, but that will show itself when I come to prime it, then I'll be happy.

There will be a brief delay as I need to decide on a paint scheme, I will finish the second dozer, I have some moulding and casting becoming imminent, I may do a commission piece to get into the swing of painting and I should rest my little finger that appears to have rsi for no apparent reason.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
Any ideas that weren't used here have been saved for future use and will not be wasted.

Considering it was a random model I bought when I went into Hobbycraft to spend a coupon and that was the only thing (40k related) that grabbed me, it has turned into quite a major project.

The old battleship hull camouflage from WWI? Some interesting stuff there.

So glad you didn't get that flying landspeeder shrine of the DA then I think the only way to improve that is to run it over. Multiple times.

Indeed. Just have to narrow them down, one at a time.

Red Harvest wrote:The old battleship hull camouflage from WWI? Some interesting stuff there.
True. There is quite a few of those in my "inspiration" folder.
I want something relatively simple in design for the underlying paint scheme so that the tank-art stands out.
And I don't want the camo' if it ends up with a camo'-like scheme, to be too good. This is not a tank for hiding, this is a tank that wears war-paint... yeah, that's a good way of thinking of it... Will plug that into google...

So glad you didn't get that flying landspeeder shrine of the DA then I think the only way to improve that is to run it over. Multiple times.

Yeah, not my cup of tea that. All I see there is lazy design; take existing model, add random features, fill in holes that were there, add holes that weren't, give no thought as to how any of it works... done. No, Ta.

Thanks MT.
I am also looking forward to seeing what colours it gets...

Now, I mentioned some fluff that I was writing for page 100. Well it ended up quite long, so I thought I'd start posting bits of it and build up to finish on page 100.
Spoiler:
The previous night had been dark, and it had been hot. The orange glow in the distance indicated that the fires were still burning in spite of the rain that had fallen for most of the day. There had been no attacks during the day-shift for the first time since the attacks began 10 days ago. Maybe they had run out of supplies, or even troops. After the fighting of the night before it would not be a surprise, but there was no way to count the enemy casualties as the bodies always disappeared before sunrise. Some people even reported that they had seen bodies disappearing as if they had been teleported away, but none had been confirmed... nothing had been confirmed, not even who the enemy was or why they were attacking.

Corporal Keveev checked the time. For the last 6 days the night-time attacks had started at any point within the next hour and a half. There didn't appear to be any pattern to it, but it always seemed as if the enemy waited until all the shifts had changed and everyone was at their most alert. It was one of a number of strange things about these attacks.
