I'd only consider going if there was a clearer explanation of "appearance guidelines". Sounds like 1/4 of the points are completely subjective by the judges and another 1/4 are completely subjective by your opponents....

Out of curiosity, I clicked through the link, to the event itself, and it doesn't look like its been updated since January - also no rules packet or anything else.

It's a sub-link of to the side. Takes you to another website that has a tiny rules packet attached to it. Judging from what was said about Seattle and the cost of the GT if you don't register months in advance I'll probably be skipping the Conquest run Indy GT's.

Based on my visit to Conquest Seattle, it wasn't worth it. Vegas got cancelled -

Sorry to tell you but this GT was cancelled last Saturday. The administrators of this GT sent an e-mail stating that they did not get enough players to make it financially feasible to run the GT.
There are a lot of really pissed off people here in Vegas. I really feel sorry for those traveling into town for this GT.

Ouch, Glad I'm not signed up for the Los Angeles one either. To bad as more events are a good thing but from what I heard maybe it's for the best.

The House that Peterbilt

This is their MO. The conquest folks had a mini-GT planned in Portland OR in the fall of '09 that they cancelled for some unannounced reason (likely as here no one signed up for it).

The real reason is no one is gonna throw down the cash for a ticket and possible travel and hotel expenses without details. I've seen alot of these circuit events that are like vapourware. And unlike something like adepticon or astronomicon and others, they aren't willing to start small and prove themselves as an event worthy of our time. They want a ton of people to show on the possible hint of a good event and a ticket to the vegas finals. Its not gonna happen and I suspect we'll see alot more of this (especially from ConQuest).

snoogums: "Just because something is not relavant doesn't mean it goes away completely."

Iorek: "Snoogums, you're right. Your arguments are irrelevant, and they sure as heck aren't going away."

In my humble opinion, Conquest is a shell. They really want/need a local club to organize and do all the work while they take all the credit (and what ever profit they make).

If you stripped off the 'Conquest' label and had a local club/store step up and organize the event, it would be more than capable (and probably more so) to do everything that Conquest is has everyone believing they do now.

Also, in the long run the community would be better served since all the table, terrain and organization would be set up for future events.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

The problem is without the info from the GW site, no one would even know about these events.

They have done nothing to promote their events, or done at least the basic effort to list the scoring for the event, have an easy to find website, and a place to ask questions.

They want people to commit $50-$70+ for this type of event sight unseen? Um, no.

In fact, the one event that they have run this year was a huge disappointment from the same event last year that was run by different people.

I live in Vegas and was planning on going, I held off on signing up until I saw the missions and other details (that never appeared). There was no promotion of the event at all, I had to find out about it from the GW site and had to ask around to even get any info. If I remember I couldn't even get anything from google searching about it until recently.

All in all it's really lame. One of the local clubs ran an event in January that was great, in 2011 that event will be a qualifier until then I will have to cruise over to SoCal for any big Tournaments.

There is Neoncon coming up in November too I think that's out in Vegas. Which I'll be headed out to since it's being run by the same guys as the Slaughter but yeah. The more I see and hear about the Conquest events the less likely I am to ever attend one....

That's true, Neoncon in October (or November) and Iron Man in January. Vegas needs a spring and summer tourney as well...

Oh the convention is still happening Rogue Market. The GT that was going to be run during the convention isn't from what I understand.
