Hi, I'm wondering about starting battlefleet gothic, I've never played or observed a game so I've no idea of the rules, I was jsut wondering if people think its worth it. Few Q's

1: I was thinking about chaos because they have lot's of smallish models, how big are these small models and are they worth it? Otherwise I'd probably go with Eldar.

2: How big are some of the other size ships, my biggest model atm is probably a monolith and I jsut about manage to transport it as it is, are they much bigger than this?

3: What's the cheapest funnest army I can use, would chaos or eldar be a good starting place, also what is the minimum you need to play with?

Thanks for your time!

Hi,

1) The small escorts are only a couple of centimeters in lenght (2-4). Cruisers about 8cm and Battleships about 12cm.
Are they worth it these little escorts? Yes. But they are not your core. Your core are cruisers (lucky Chaos cruisers are plastic and cheap to afford).

Within an Corsair Eldar fleet your core are indeed the little escorts.

2) As said, largest vessels would be around 15cm in lenght.

3) Cheapest? Styrofoam (sp?), create an Ork Space Hulk plus a few Ork Roks and you have 1500pts for about 10 euro's...

Chaos and Imperial Navy are cheapest to afford since they have plastic cruiser packs (2 ships). So for both with 2 of those packs. 2 blisters of escort and a battleship you are already over 1000pts easily.

Tau CPF, sold at Forgeworld is also pretty cheap.

You can start playing from 250pts an upwards in small scenarios.

Engagement start from 1000pts and up. Around 1500pts can be seen as an average.

The problem is I'm a kid and that'll run me atleast 50 quid, which I could use to bolster my Necron 40K army, which I really need tbh. So it's a tough decision to make there.

Tyranids can be a pretty cheap fleet, if you're willing to ddo a bit of work. Many/most nid players scratch-build their fleet from leftover parts.

A box or two of gaunts, a ravener/warrior brood and some greenstuff can get you a very large fleet. Look it up on port maw or other places on the net.

Tau forgeworld fleet is also reasonably cheap.

Yup... orks and tyranids are the cheapest. Of course, you don't even need models to play if you are just playing somebody real informally... the bearing compass printouts work for ships just fine, since you measure to the stem of the flying stand anyway.

And because it's a Specialist Game, all the rules and stats are online. Which is a big help.

If you truly considering getting into the game, I'd recommend actually picking up the box set. It contains 8 cruisers (4 Imperial and 4 Chaos, which can all be assembled a host of ways). But it also comes with all the tokens and special dice that are highly awesome.

As stated above, Orks and Nids are the easiest and cheapest to build (random pieces and bits can make a fleet in no time). An Ork player at my LGS has several ships made from bits and card.

Even if you'd like, you could look into getting a Necron fleet, as that's your 40k army. I'll soon be in a campaign that incorporates both BFG and 40k. It's fun to tie the games together like that.

They discontinued the box set, unfortunately.

True, but in some places they have a copy or two. I know of a few stores that have them in my state.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

You can hardly fail to find whole fleets going cheap on eBay day after day.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
