I'm building a Mech Chaos list, that has a some Chaos Rhino's in it, for Taxiing the slower than Christmas Thousand Sons around town.

Do people run the things naked? Or is it worth spending the points and adding guns and gear to the bus?

I typically run them naked because of cost. Especially the case with Thousand Sons.

Otherwise I do run them with Havoc Launchers for two reason another weapon an opponent must destroy on the damage table and because it is codex specific to CSM and is twin linked =)

I usually add a combi plasma gun to each of my Rhinos. The reason is because Chaos (and Death Guard which I play) lack range and the single plasma shot can help alleviate that. It's pretty easy to find a use for one 24" or 2 12" S 7 AP 2 shots. It's not a world beater but can be pretty handy.

Yeah, you either go naked or stick a gun on it. Possession, Armor and Bulldozers are too expensive. Personally, I've got enough anti-tank not to need combi-plas/melta. However, combi-flamers and Havoc Launchers (oh, God, the Havoc Launchers) munch light infantry. If you're carting around Thousand Sons, it might be worth slapping a combi-flamer on to give some support against hordes. Its a lot cheaper than Winds of Chaos, and often more effective (I hate being stuck wounding on 4's against GEQs, when a Flamer wounds on 3's and ignores armor anyway).

There is an article somewhere, but for the life of me i cannot find it, which details how the 5 point extra bolter is extremely worth its points. I think it basically comes down to helping with weapon destroyed results.

Unlike darkhound i have found the havoc launcher to be overkill. Usually my rhinos are moving either to deploy troops or to give cover for troops.

I personally save the points, run them naked to maximize my other units. If there are points left over might as well throw something cheap on them.

I think DarkHound is the only other havoc launcher advocate on here, but I YOU SHOULD PUT IT ON EVERYTHING (except Defilers).
I first became a believer after nailing a rear armor shot on a devilfish, immobilising and destroying it (last edition) and I have never regretted taking havoc launchers.

What does your rhino do after it disgorges troops on an objective or an enemy? Mine dishes out some blast markers.

If a rhino with a havoc launcher survives the initial rush, nine times out of ten it will pay for itself. I can't even say how many times I've watched the rhino that my opponent forgot about go through boyz or even fire warriors like a woodchipper.

I'm against Havocs, but for TL bolter if it's only the damage table you are worried about.

A moving Rhino offers so much to the army as opposed to a shooting one. A laundry list of uses without needing more points spent on it.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I use Combi-Melta with my Legion of Brass. After they drop off the Zerkers they become tank hunters!

I usually go naked to save points, but I'm starting to experiment with combi-meltas or havocs. Combi-weapons in particular seem nice due to low cost and potential for high damage. And they add a little extra durability to the vehicle.
