I've been playing for many years but only really played with a group of 4-5 friends. Thinking of entering the odd tournament, the Grand Tournament at Warhammer world and probably the doubles GT as well. I live right next to Warhammer World so seems a shame not to.

I understand that people will be stricter of WYSIWYG which is fine and my army is painted to a good standard so thats cool, but what is the composition score reffered to in the most recent Dakka Poll? I can only think you get a higher score for the more interesting and un-cheesy your army list is?

Also as far as sportsmanship goes is that a score on how much of an arse or not you are to the other guy when you're playing, moving troops 7-8" etc?

Enjoy the tournament. I always enjoy tournaments and I regret not being able to make Adepticon this year. To answer your question, composition is different for every tournament. It’s likely that it’s likely that the GT and Warhammer World have a standardized comp scoring system so it might be worthwhile to do a search to see if you can find it or contact them directly to learn more about it.

Comp scoring could be anything. I’ve seen comp scores where players grade their opponents (1. Well balanced army, 2. Balanced but possessing some over the top units, 3. Unbalanced, designed to explot the rules and powerful units, 4. Completely insane and I would not like to play this opponent again) to a formal scoring where players loose points for each HQ, Fast Attack, Elite, and Heavy Support choice they take beyond the first.

Look into it. I’m sure there’s something out there that explains what system these tournaments use.

Each tournament has its own scoring systems. There have been a lot of threads recently in our new Tournament Discussion forum, to which I'm moving this thread.
