I'm not sure if this should be under the proposed rules, or here, since it kind of fits both.

During the League nights I run, we decided to do one "mini" tournament right before the League games started. The first week we did Dreadnought Arena, and this week is Tank Arena. Here's the rules I've came up with so far. Let me know what you guys think! Keep in mind that this is a "fun" tournament, with a small ($2.50) entry fee.

The rules:

You may bring any tank from any codex. Tyranids may bring a single model from the Heavy Support category, and Dark Eldar may bring a Ravager. There is no points limitation, however, all models must be WYSIWYG.

Everyone will play on the same 4x8 table with terrain set up before the game.

Turn order will be randomly determined at the start of each turn.

Deep Strike, Scout, Infiltrators, and the Reserves rules may not be used.

On the first turn only, if you have not had a chance to go, you get a 4+ save against all hits, and all hits count as glancing.

Before the game begins, choose a single weapon to be your “main” weapon. This weapon gets a 4+ save from any “Weapon Destroyed” results.

Vehicles that explode, instead use half the rear armor as the strength value of the explosion, instead of 3.

At the end of the game, the tank commander who scored the most points wins! Winner takes all, there's no second place!

Points are awarded as follows

+1 point for getting an unsaved weapon destroyed result/causing a wound

+2 points for immobilizing an enemy vehicle

+5 points for wrecking an enemy vehicle/killing an enemy.

+6 points for exploding an enemy vehicle!

+10 points for wrecking or exploding a vehicle due to a ramming move/close combat

+10 bonus points if a vehicle you destroyed explodes and destroys another enemy vehicle.

+10 points for being the last vehicle standing

I like some of it....

But I don't think there's ever a way that you can wreck or explode a vehicle that will then destroy another enemy vehicle... S3 won't do anything, even to armor 10, especially if it get's rounded down against vehicles.

How will you balance it out?It seems the imperium has a better shot, with baneblades/land raiders. Monoliths will also be nigh unbeatable...

How will TMC work?

Vehicles are S4 when they blow(only 3 if they are open topped IIRC) and Baneblades won't be allowed (Apoc. isn't a codex!)

Land raiders and Monoliths are tough, sure, but they will be a fire magnet for sure.

I did leave out a bit on the TMC, it's 5 points for killing one.

They're S4 to passengers - S3 to anyone outside of it.

You have just confirmed something about my own posts that I have been wondering.

Single line sentences, with a gap, then another, with a gap is really hard to read. Cheers, I will change that.

Whoops. My bad, I'm so used to playing with open topped vehicles, I forgot how normal ones worked! Fixed, hopefully that will be slightly more lethal.

I like the idea as long as there are a good amount of vehicles on the board. I can only imagine how much fun this could be with 20 players!

Well, we only ended up having 8, which is around the low end side of the turn-outs for the regular tournaments. Only had one Land Raider and one Monolith show up, one Vect, couple of Russ variants, a Bassy, and a Chaos Pred decked out with lascannons. Was a lot of fun, but ended up taking a bit longer than I thought it would. I'll update my OP and post the final rules for it, but all in all it worked very well, and everyone had a good time.

Probably going to do an "Elites" tournament next, but I'm still trying to hash out how that one will work. I think I'll have to come up with a points limitation for it to prevent Über units from taking the day, probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 points or so. Also thinking of doing a Special Character type tournament, but I have a few more weeks to hash out those rulesets. I'll also post the rules to my previous Dreadnought Arena tomorrow, when I am a bit more awake!
