Alright. So after much deliberation I am going to field Orks in 40k. My question for you is this: How do you make an Ork Warboss that fits the upgrades you have given him? Do you take one of the existing metal ones and convert that? Or do most people take the AoBR warboss and convert him? Just curious.

The AoBR warboss is the best for converting. I have like five of them and was able to convert them to look nothing like the other with Shoota-Skorchas and Power Klaws. The metal ones are ok but are hard to convert.

What do you use to convert? I know GS, but where do you get the other weapon and upgrade options? Kitbashing?

I just use parts from other ork kits and some chaos bitz for the upgrades. Shoota/Rokkit Launcha/Skorchas come from the Loota/Burna Kit. A choppa and big choppa is useless on a warboss.

Do you think that WHF orc bits are any good for use in 40k? Not just for the warboss but for regular boyz?

You can use WFB Orc bitz and they convert well but here read this article I posted on how to convert Orks. Trust me it is a good read with example pictures.

Well I normally reserve conversions for the "cool guys" in the army. So naturally a boss is what takes the mark. Heres a pic of mine. I think converting a warboss is the best for many reasons. Orks are fairly easy to convert, simply because you can basically take apart random junk and electronics, and the parts inside look like something Orks would use. And as such, you can convert them for any type of build you want. Mine is Unta da Ead Hunta. He counts as either a thraka counts as, or as a mega boss. I used a metal Ogryn bone ead, and then just chopped everything I could up. But using the AOBR boss is deffinetly easier as he is plastic, and a really cool looking mini.
Anywho good luck, and hopefully you get some inspiration

...urrrr... I dunno

KingCracker: Holy shi...cow, that guy has the gnarliest bioniks EVER.

Redbeard: it's best to think of a theme for your warboss, and go from there. Once I find some appropriate bitz, I will be converting a map-holding, confused warboss. That's an example.

For my warboss i used the body of an ogryn (the old one with his fist in the air) then the bosses head with a bionic eye and plated skull and i used the orks arm with his twin big shoota and in the other i used a bit of a chain off cut from another model to make his melee weapon. looked awsum.

I use broken pens, old broken toys, random things I find in street gutters (seriously). Pretty much anything I see that sparks my creativity.

I like the 101 Compilation on Da Waaagh, found here.

Lots of usefull how-tos on anything from gubbinz to cybork implants, even how to make your own skrochas from a slugga and a paper clip.
The Bloo Printz section is also very inspiring. Needless to say, I spend a lot of time in the Mek Garage.
