I don't get a lot of games in, so when the local GW has an in-store tourney I'm up for that. However, for some reason ( ) this month's tourney is at 500 points. I haven't played a 500 point game of WFB since like 1989, so making a list that will be somewhat effective is rather difficult. This is what I have come up with. I'm seeking the counsel of the other worldwide followers of the Dark Gods on this one.

General - Exalted - 123
Shield, Great Weapon

Chaos Hounds x 5 -30

Marauder Infantry x 10 -64
Lt.Arm, Shield, Musician

Marauder Infantry x 10
Lt.Arm, Shield, Champ, Musician -72

Marauder Horsemen x 5
Flails, throwing axes, musician - 91

Chariot - 120

500 points exactly

The other option I was thinking here would be to free up some points by losing the dogs, the champ out of the marauder infantry, take the flails or axes out of the horseman, or some other tinkering and take a Spawn. I'm not too worried about magic as the most the opponent will probably have is a level one wizard, so the dispell dice should handle that easily. Think you can come up with a better list? I've got the models to cover almost any eventuality.

Not a huge change, but I might suggest a flail-y mounted exalted -

Exalted - flail, shield, barded steed = 135

- paid for by dropping the marauder champ. Just better at a whole lot of things and can accompany anybody. I'd also heartily suggest flails on those marauders, and light armor on the horsemen. Personally I'd pick flails or t.axes on the horsemen, as taking both is expensive and at least for me gives too many options for 'em.

Stripping off all the infantry light armor and swapping t.axes for light armor, you can actually afford roar, which as I say a lot is hot sex. None of my opponents appreciate that WoC get such an amazing 20 point item

H: Exalted - biting blade, bloodcurdling roar, shield, barded steed = 156

C: 5 Horsemen - musician, flails, light armor = 86
C: 10 Marauders - musician, flails = 54
C: 10 Marauders - musician, flails = 54
C: 5 Warhounds = 30

S: Chariot = 120
-----
500

^ My 500 point tweak. Went with biting blade so there's at least one magic weapon available (treemonics and cheeky wraiths), and to tag 500 exactly

Bossman on a horse....that might be doable.

The flails on the infantry is tempting as I'm pretty sure most of my possible opponents will be using goblins (that's all i ever see anyone painting in the shop).

I've got a serious case of nerd love for the throwing axes as most people don't expect them and will turn units to face the horseman at that point. I don't know why, but the last 5 or 6 times I've played and peppered a dudes flank with 5 axe shots, they'll turn the whole unit to face. I figure if they expose a flank I can then use the chariot to deliver the hammer blow.

As I'm typing, I'm thinking more about the bossman on the horse...

Are you required to take the Hero? If not, you could use the points for units of Chaos Warriors. Each warrior is a mini-hero, why have 1 when you can have 5.

I played in a warbands 500 point even a few months ago. The biggest magical challenge was an Empire wizard lv1 with an item which allowed him to cast with 3 dice. That 2D6 fireball on 3 dice was killing me.... until he miscast and lost the spell.

If you wanted to plan hard core magic - there should be points for an unmarked lv2 sorcerer with the book of secrets. It would be like having a lv3 caster in a 500 point game.

^^ Yeah. You need the hero to be the general. I have no idea what the other people will be playing, but I imagine there will be quite a bit of gobbos and skaven.

I just think a 500 point tourney is stupid. But, I don't get many chances to play so beggars can't be choosy.

I played in the tourney today at 500 points. I had...

Exalted - shield
Marauder horsemen x5 - throwing axes, musician
Marauder Infantry x10 - lt.arm, shield, musician
Marauder Infantry x10 - lt.arm, shield, musician
Chariot
Spawn

I tabled my opponent at the end of the third turn in the first game. He was playing Dark Elves and I got really lucky with my throwing axe shots killing 4 out of 5 in his cavalry unit. The chariot and the two units of Marauders then fisted his general and his unit mercilessly.

In the second game, I got tabled in Turn 6. He was playing Orcs and Goblins. His spider riders' spiders got 4 poison attacks on the Spawn on the charge and got the flank of my General's unit just barely. They died, and every one ran amok killing Orcs for three turns until some goblin spearmen got the flank of my last unit standing. Heroic defeat.

Thanks for the advice guys! I had a great time!
