I figure this is the right forum, since it doesnt really apply to 40k at all. If its not the correct one, i shall except my lashings.

Anyway how do you guys keep your models from sliding all over the place on their trays. Even if im carefull the like to slide around. And if i lift them off the table for any reason its like dimanos and half of them fall....

I was thinking little pieces of velcro or magnents could work.

i use pieces of sheet metal for/in the trays with magnets on the bases of my units. You could put metal into the GW movement trays. I like the magnets because I also transport my models in the movement trays magnetized to something else (typically a metal toolbox or a sabol army transport with metal placed on the bottom of the foam trays)

I tried to transport my army in the trays, and it looked as if an earthquake hit. They were padded well so no damage

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but I was thinking of using magnets. But what would be a suitable source of a thin ferrous metal please?

I just use squares of sheet metal purchased at a hardware store (I think I got mine at home depot). They're like 1' by 1' square and I cut them with some hand shears though I often wish I had something better.

That's how I did it. I also used some epoxy putty to seat the magnets, the superglue I was using just was not cutting it. they kept breaking away

yeah, I often have magnets rip off the bases with superglue. When I was putting it together I was filling in the bases over the magnet with pre mix concrete patch since I didn't have any kind of putty. worked fine.

I suppose if you wanted to put in the time you could buy some wood, use a chisel and hammer and gently knock out a square area to put your guys in. if you made it about as deep as the base they probably wouldnt fall out too often. that would be a pretty way of doing it! granted the magnet idea is a good one.

I've seen people completly base the movement trays so there isn't pain grey plastic when models are removed and that seems to provide enough traction to stop stuff from moving all over the place. I'm liking the magnet idea more though, especially when you can just put some flock and stuff over the metal sheet and still have the magnets.

Just a thought
Is it possible to get the stuff that some fridge magnets are made of? That would be ideal I think as it would be easy to fix to some thin styrene sheet

I use adhesive magnet sheets that you can get at the dollar store and small washers (on the bottom of the bases). It makes them sit up a bit higher but there is enough strength to keep the whole unit on even when the tray is upside down.

So taking some advice i have mine made!!!!

First i took so of the adhesive magnetic stripping and cut it into little pieces. I then superglued it to the model bases.

Then i took my nice movement trays and cut a piece of sheet metal to fit nicely inside it. I used epoxy and glued them into the base of the movement tray. They look really good!
