Imperial Warcasting is pretty good.
Imperial Voxcast is ok
World's End Radio is good but they talk about all of the GW games.
I have not had time to check out TableTop Battlefield yet.

I kinda got feed up with 40k radio (not paying to listen to a podcast). If I were to pick 1 to listen to(all I really have time for), what should it be?
Looking for only, or even mostly, 40k centric podcasts. Have no interest in WFB, LoTR, WM, Hordes, etc

40k Radio is good, but sometimes they seem a little drunk. Still I think its one of the better ones. The two core guys are pretty solid.
Imperial Voxcast is also good. I just went though about 5 episodes.
My favorite is World's End Radio. This guys are mature and intelligent, it's makes a huge difference. The talk about bloodbowl and fantasy as well.
It's interesting to compare the regional qualities of the hosts and the differing shows that result.
@GMMStudios--how can I get my iphone to update these podcasts??

Here are a few non-40k podcasts I like
The website sofloradio.com is where they have most of the shows i listen to on and its all very entertaining and is a wide array of topics. I recommend Jorge Rodriguez and Joe Castello.
I also like the Gundamn! podcast if you like some mecha discussions.
I also listen to 40k Radio along with Dice like Thunder. This week in wargaming is also pretty entertaining as well.
@GMM do you usually listen while you paint?

Heelanhammer is a decent WFB one. Some of it may not be too relevant if you live across the pond but the hobby and tactics bits are useful and it has a forum to support the show.

How do people listen to so many? I can get through a couple episodes a day at work, and I still fall behind.
I listen to D6G, 40k Radio, Podhammer, World's End Radio, Three Die Block (Blood Bowl), and Iron Agenda.
Also, the Adepticon 2010 episode of 40k Radio is a must listen.
They interview Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Writer of Soul Hunter.
He is freaking hilarious.

Here's some mini-reviews gaming related podcasts I follow:
Heelanhammer: I think this is the best WFB podcast available right now. It's a weekly that focusses on the hobby (e.g. painting & modelling) and the English tournament scene (which I really envy). Dan and Wayne complement each other really well and they provide some of the best tournament recaps.
Bad Dice: Another WFB podcast about English tournaments, but with filthier armies.
D6 Generation: The scope of this podcast is broader than the rest in that it includes rpgs and board games. As noted before, it's pretty long, but the good stuff is usually at the beginning. I'll sometimes stop listening after the news unless a particular topic interests me. It strikes me as one of the more innovative podcasts around. The McLaughlin group parody at the beginnings is the best podcast intro I've heard and achievements in gaming is a nice spin on the generic "this week in warhammer".
World's End Radio: A good podcast out of Australia on the breadth of the GW line. It's also usually on the longer side. Luke and JJ have a tendency to focus on the specialist games, like Blood Bowl.
Podhammer: Another Australian podcast on 80s cartoons and WFB. This can be one of the funniest podcasts, but it's definitely not safe for work. It's been a bit hit and miss since a hiatus, but hopefully it'll get back into the swing of things pretty soon.
The Waaagh Cast: American WFB podcast. They do some tournament stuff, but have been doing more army reviews recently.
Also, I'll just mention a couple that others have brought up that I don't listen to regularly any more.
Fear the Boot is a great podcast about RPGs especially if you played them in the 90s: They have a tendency to get nostalgic about games like BattleTech/MechWarrior, Shadowrun and Rifts. The only reason I don't listen to it any more is that I don't really play RPGs any more.
40k radio: I used to tune in weekly for the live broadcast, which is a real high point. In my opinion they have the highest production value of any of the podcasts. I gradually stopped because I'm kind of moving away from 40k into fantasy (if you haven't noticed from the podcasts listed above) and I kind of got taken aback by the whole taser incident. Now everytime I listen that's all I can think about, but that's just my personality, having undergone many years of indoctrination in industrial safety. If you LIKE watching people get tasered, then this is definitely the podcast for you.
Looking back, it seems like I've been a little bit negative, but I didn't mean to be. I just wanted to describe the different styles, etc... All of the podcasts I've listed I listen to regularly and there are plenty of others that didn't pass muster. All the podcasts I listed are top notch and I'd definitely recommend them.

I listen to several podcasts. I will list them all here and not just the ones related to 40k. There are quite a few and I provide little descriptions why I listen.
Above & Beyond: Trance Around the World - if you like electronic music, I'd recommend this one. It's the favorite of the music podcasts I have.
Analog Hole Gaming - A NSFW podcast about general videogaming featuring news and commentary, one of the hosts might take some getting used to, but it's fun to listen to.
Citizen Azeroth - A new WoW podcast from the former host of one of the more popular World of Warcraft podcasts.
Crobar BoraMusic Housecast - Another electronic music podcast
.
The D6 Generation - My favorite gaming cast. Save it for last everytime.
Dice Like Thunder
Fear the Boot - Great podcast. Has helped me run RPGs and think about things when running them.
Kotaku Talk Radio - Podcast of the gaming blog Kotaku.com. Weekly interviews and call-ins recorded live.
A Life Well Wasted - One of the best produced podcasts I have found. Made by RObert Ashley formerly of 1Up. Different stories about the video gaming world.
Meeples and Miniatures - UK perspective on everything not GW.
PC Gamer Podcast - Podcast of the magazine PC Gamer.
Podhammer - I'm not sure I like this one anymore as it seems to be becoming more of a STS (shoot the #*@&) session instead of talking about Warhammer Fantasy.
Pulp Gamer Inside Track/Out of Character - Generally good RPG podcasts.
Radio 538: Tiesto's Club Life - Another electronic music podcast by one of my favorite DJs.
Radio Free Burrito - Podcast by Wil Wheaton. Well produced, usually short, different topics.
Rebel FM - Video gaming podcast of the formerly 1Up crew. Good, fun listen.
The RPS Electronic Wireless Show - Another video game podcast from the website Rock, Paper, Shotgun. UK perspective.
SModcast - Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier. Hilarious. Definitely NSFW.
A State of Trance Official Podcast - Another music podcast by a DJ I enjoy listening to.
The Steve Dahl Show - Podcast made by a Chicago radio legend. Pretty funny.
This American Life - Weekly themed stories. Highly Recommend
This Week in Wargaming - Ken Whitehurst has taken up the reigns after Troy left, and is doing an excellent job. Weekly wargaming news.

I have to have something in the background. I just cant sit in a quiet room and paint.
I will listen to anything I can get my hands on and is entertaining. I like watching documentaries and listening to stuff like podcasts the most, followed by movies and music then TV. Unless it is a show I have on DVD. Over the past 2 years I have seen the entirety of Seinfeld and the Office at least 5 times each, I will watch it through then a couple months later feel like playing it again, they dont really get old. That was mostly before I had internet at work (now home) though.
Some other shows I have bought but only seen through once are the xfiles and Simpsons. Xfiles requires more attention than I would like to give it (and I had never seen the last few seasons before.......) and the Simpsons I just havent felt like watching.

GMM, do you have Netflix streaming? It's like $9 a month and there are a LOT of good TV series and documentaries on there. Plus if you hate it, just remove it from the queue and you've only lost a bit of your time.

Well I have a 360, so I have been tempted. The main reason I havent is because my GF is in nursing school and we dont need that temptation there because she needs to study 24/7.
But this summer that will be one of the first things I do after I move.

Now we're off topic but...
Balance wrote:Netflix streaming is pretty cool. I could almost justify using that and Hulu and canceling TV service.
I actually did this last year! There is a bit of software called "PlayOn" that lets you watch Hulu and other internet stuff on your X-box 360, PS3, or Wii. Combine that with Netflix and I can see just about any show I want on my 360.
And if it is a hot new show I really want to watch, most of them are sold digitally now on Zune marketplace or iTunes. Buying one or two shows once in a while is much cheaper than my old monthly cable bill.
Sorry about that... we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread about cool podcasts.

If you're looking for non-gaming podcasts highly reccomend anything that How Stuff Works puts out, it's all fairly interesting and educating at the same time. They had "How Lightsabers work" a few weeks ago and went through the fantasy technical aspect as well as the actual processed used in the original trilogy to get them on screen.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity...... |
