Hey everyone, I recently had a brilliant idea. So since just about every major 40k tournament in North America uses soft scores, I figured: why not include them in painting competitions as well?

The painting competition would work like this:
a) Everyone submits their models. The judges then score them.
b) While the judges are scoring the models, everyone gets together and has a big cocktail party. While this is going on, each person must pair up with three other people and have a minimum 5-minute conversation with them. You then grade these people out of ten on how nice they are. Ten being best, one being worst.
c) The next day, you have a 40k tournament. You play 3 games in swiss style matchups. Before each game, you grade your opponent's composition out of five. Five being fluffy, one being optimized.

At the end of the day, you count up the Battle Points, Sportsmanship scores, Comp, and last but not least, the Painting scores.
- Painting is worth 50%
- Battle Points is worth 20%
- Sportsmanship is worth 20%
- Comp is worth 10%

Whoever has the most points using the above ranking system is obviously the best painter, and therefore wins the painting competition.

I think this system would make the painting competition scene way more competitive.

Without intending to cause offense...I believe this post qualifies as Trolling.

While I'm certainly walking a fine line, I am actually trying to make a point. I want someone to tell me exactly what the difference is between my proposed painting competition and our current tourney system. This post is intended to illustrate how silly the current tourney system is.

I don't want this to turn into a flame war.

To be fair, we need an objective checklist or scale in order to make sure the comp scoring is fair. I suggest something like the following:

- The army is painted purely for fun and without regard for competition: 10 points
- The army is painted to a decent standard with some obvious care and effort: 8 points
- The army makes use of some advanced painting techniques: 6 points
- All models in the army are presented well and obviously prepped: 4 points
- The entire army features professional level painting and/or makes use of a display board or case: 2 points
- The entire army is painted and presented purely for competitive judging and without any regard for having fun: 0 points

Including what you were actually hoping the post to achieve in the original post would have made it look less like trolling.

Yes, it's a fair point for discussion. If you would like to repost it in a less confrontational fashion, feel free.
