Well this is my first attempt at a space wolves army. I have been in the process of painting 38 chaos marines lately, and my girlfriend said (after weeks of consideration) that she wants to make a Space Wolves or a Tyranid list. Well this is my attempt at a ridiculous space wolves list.
HQ: Wolf Lord, Thunder Hammer, Storm shield, Runic armor, saga of the beastslayer, wolfstooth necklace
attached to:
TRP: x9 Grey Hunters, meltagun, powerfist, rhino.
More Troops
TRP: x10 Grey Hunters, x2 Meltagun, rhino
TRP: x10 Grey Hunters, x2 Meltagun, rhino
TRP: x10 Grey Hunters, x2 Meltagun, rhino
TRP: x5 Grey Hunters, Razorback w/ TL Lascannon
TRP: x5 Grey Hunters, Razorback w/ TL Lascannon
Hvy: Long Fangs x 5, x4 heavy bolters
Hvy: Long Fangs x 5, x4 heavy bolters
Exactly 1500 points. Quite incredible imo. Painting that many models isn't really an issue, there are two of us painting all of these models. And I already own a majority of the colors I need. It will just take a helluva long time if we're trying to make them nice. Well it's a six transport vehicle list. What do you think? Does anyone like my homemade Wolf Lord?
Automatically Appended Next Post:
If you didn't notice, you're looking at 60 units of power armor and weaponry. Everyone but the 10 Long Fangs in transports. I assume they'll just hold the furthest back position.

Get MLs instead of HBs, much more versitile. The two expensive RBs run a high risk of eating a lascannon or equivalent shot on turn one and die. You have no armour saturation so I would consider either droping them or find pts to get you two (or so) more RBs

so, it's either four razorbacks or bust?
I guess I could drop them for one full squad of grey hunters in a rhino (full equipment) and having 120 points left. Another two meltaguns would probably work even better.
If I put Missile Launchers on the Long Fangs it costs me double the price. I only went with Heavy Bolters to give me 24 str 6 attacks if those two groups focus fire.
Switching to ML with the extra points would probably work just as well. But I wanted to keep my Long Fangs streamlined.
Any Ideas what I can add to this list for only 120 points??? (That would mean keeping Heavy Bolters on the long fangs)

Id drop the razorbacks and merge the two squads together. with the points you save you could get a dreanaught with a multi melta heavy flamer and drop pod. aldo ever considered a flamer and melta combo in ur gh sqyads? you could do some drive by flaming aswell as they are good for taking out hordes and they are free so they let you get 2 free weapons

Heavy bolters are only S5, not S6.
And a Long Fang with a ML at 25 points is a steal.
You could also try to split the weapons; my usual loadout for longfangs is 3 ML/2HB.

Uhh I thought that they were only allowed a total of four heavy weapons. They long Fangs. I agree with just adding another Grey Hunter Pack like Someone said.
I wanted to have duel TL Lascannon shooting at least once in the game though. But x10 in a rhino with drive by flamers would probably be way more effective.

I'd say put the longfang in the razorback with lascannons because you can put them in the back of the battlefield and just take potshots with it.
I've had great luck with long fangs with 3/ml and 2/lc

Long Fangs can have 5. They're great that way.
If you want to keep some heavy bolters in the list, downgrade the Las razorbacks to heavy bolters. You'd save what, 70-80 points?
Plenty of points to combine those grey hunter squads and get them another rhino.
That way you can give the razorbacks to the Long Fangs as dedicated transports. You can just field the Fangs on the board and have two mobile heavy bolters blocking firing/charge lanes for you or zooming over to contest objectives late game.

They can't contest objectives I think because they are heavy support not troop choices.

All units can contest objectives unless their rules specificaly state they connot. Only troops may capture objectives. So they could indeed be late game objective contesters if the opponent was more focused on the grey hunter squads that you are throwing in their face.

I love the list the way it is (barring the long fangs) and all I would do is attempt at ML's instead of heavy bolters. All that I would do to that list anyway...

i jast read the codex a bit, never played a game with space wolves so i am probably wrong about this: but isnt it better to change the wolf lord for something else? for example ulrik the slayer, since including the upgrades he is 200 points, where ulrik seems to be better and costs only 180 points, those 20 points could be spent on upgrades

Missile Launcher are in fact versatile...but their versatility sucks away their effectiveness.
But redundancy solves that issue.
