Calgar is the main sm hero but not many people take him in their army's

Why not i know he's rather pricey but he lets all your troops choose whether to pass or fail any leadership test

And in close he is a tank with 5 power fist attack and re roll to wounds

so why don't people take him more

?

I think people don't take him cause he is pricey for a small army. However he is kickass BUT no one is invincible. Like take the Nightbringer for example I know a lot of Necron players who use him cause he is just plain and simple UBER. BUT we figured out just to use a lot of snipers and Las cannons to chip his wounds away. Like now that the Mawloc and Trygons came out people started using it. They are piss easy. Assault Terminators will own and even Cato Sicarius with 'cop da grace' of how ever it is spelt.

So simply, there is always a weakness. I charged Calgar with Colonel Straken and killed him. All in the roll my friend.

You need an army to support him. If he can take a lot of fire power shield your scoring units with him.

I would cause he is a great model and looks great.

In the end no matter what anyone says. It's up to you

Calgar is good alone, but excels with a terminator retinue.

I "playtested" him versus various enemies, mostly Eldar like an Avatar and some Pheonix lords.

Although he manages to kill the pheonix lords most of the time, he has trouble with the avatar.

Calgar is good, but imo wouldn't last long against a Bloodthirster or a monstrous creature with a 4+ inv save or better and a relatively high strength and toughness.

I would recommend him for higher point games. You can take him in a 1,500 point game, but as zjohnson19 said, no one is invincible, and if he dies, there goes your points.

It's "coup de grace", meaning finishing strike in french.

calgar's awesome but he will get picked off very early unless you give him a termie retinue and a land raider. He excels in cc, but if taken alone will get floored eaisly in the first turn. he costs loads of points too.....

Think dante is pretty good; tactical precision, sanguinary gaurd as troops and death mask of sanguinus = awesome. They only problem is he is not an eternal warrior....

I knew I heard it somewhere. Wasn't 100% on the spelling. But exactly. think about yourself. Would you rather being alone in a fight or with some mates.

Honor Guard are too expensive for what you get IMO.

Calgar is ok, but vulkan is the best SM character purely because of how good you can make a SM army including him.
