If you're going to deepstrike the Farsight bomb, I would have an HQ or Shas'vre with the positional relay to help get that squad in on turn 2.

I'd reduce the size of the bodyguard myself to 5 suits (Farsight + 4 BG), and get a pirahna squadron.

The loadout on the BGs look good, though I like one with iridium armor and 2 shield drones.

Good luck.

You should be able to squeeze one more FNP wound in there

Drop the shas'vre with the Black sun filter and remove the stim injector from the suit that has it. Then add a Shas'el commander with plasma/fusion or plasma/missile and the stim injector, etc. Should cost 122 points, put you at an even 2000, and give you one more FNP wound since he can join farsights squad.

Of course, you could go over the top and make it a shas'o, and even give it a shield generator and have 4 more FNP/4+ inv saves on the squad, but it gets expensive.

I'd go with 2x broadsides with ASS and 2x shield drones for 200 instead of 3x broadsides with no shield drones. They're just too juicy a target otherwise. sometimes I join the shas'el or shas'o to them for a couple turns so my opponent struggles to shoot them off the board. ASS comes in handy on DOW missions which you typically see one of every time, and being able to reposition or just back up when something scary is coming for you is nice.

I totally didn't think about the commander/bodyguard swap but that would give aother KP and I'm crying already cause I have 11 with the 3 fish.

I like the idea of the drones with my broadsides but I think I'd rather pull off the 2 SMS from the fsh for them and keep the full size squad.......but the SMS are pretty good working together.

Thanks for the input.........anything else?

Tau give up a lot of kill points, that is just the way it is. If you lose him, it is because farsight got assaulted and broke, or because the broadsides got assaulted. In other words, you're already losing.

Without the shield drones, every lascannon will be pumped into your broadsides, and they will die quickly. It only takes 12 BS 3 lascannon shots in cover to wipe the whole squad. That isn't very many at 2000 points. Even with the shield drones they get hit pretty hard, which is why I've taken to putting a commander with them to make people look elsewhere for targets for a couple turns. YMMV.

I find it hard to win in 5e without Piranhas. Their ability to block assaulters, kill armor, and run up and contest objectives late game are all invaluable. I would playtest replacing one of the devilfish with two fusion piranhas (and steal some points here and there). Just keep all three squads of fire warriors in reserve to start the game, and they should be safe-ish. One walks onto your closest objective, one gets into a devilfish, and one maybe rolls on in its devilfish when it comes on. Makes you less likely to give up those drone kill points if you have drones as well. God I hate those drone kill points, they alone are what is killing Tau in 5e imo.
