I am happy that there are not helmeted heads in the trolls' kit. They could also easly double as ogres.

I like those a lot! Hopefully, there’ll be a good number of weapons options in the kit. Would like to see some kind of missile weapon option too…

Like a big, crude crossbow? Or something close to a sling?

My druthers would be a big mean-looking crossbow, or maybe a primitive looking bow. But, who are we kidding? It should be a big mean crossbow!
Whatever it is, it should be brutal and relatively primitive (or at least massively robust). A sling just wouldn’t look imposing enough IMHO.
That said, I would like to see options for barbed javelins/harpoons and nets for hunters. And, of course, the option for HW and shield, 2xHW, and double-handed weapons.

There isn't much indication of how big they actually are and from the repeated elements, I think we're actually looking at 2-3 torsos and 2-3 sets of legs, modified with accessories.

Not super huge, judging by the size of the skulls on the one troll's belt (assuming those are human skulls).

A thematic ranged option might be just a massive rock in the troll's hands that he will yeet at the enemy.

I suppose. But I do like that these trolls look to be more than just primitive, brainless, beasts armed with whatever they pick up and beat someone with. But I will admit I am seeing these much more as ogres than trolls.
But full props on yeet!

That's the truth, I don't even know what I think a troll should look like. I recently bought a bunch of Reaper ogres to use as trolls for Rangers of Shadow Deep
These look like they'd be just the ticket for Lord of the Rings.

Really nice work thus far anyway, might I suggest a hafted flail(like a Hussite flail) as a weapon option. I can really see those big boys being devastating swinging something like that around.

The overall size of these guys will be the most determining factor for me, but I'm sure I'll still grab at least one box.
I'd imagine they're at least going to be large enough to fit a 40mm base. Outside of the spiders these will probably end up being the largest kit WGA has produced.
My prediction is probably if they're really big we won't get more than 8 to a box, but I'm going to guess 6.
I do agree that one of the best aspects of trolls and ogres is their design fluidity and that they can be used for all sorts of purposes.

I hope moving production to America works out for them and they continue to succeed and grow.

Yeah the big guys always get left out for ranged weapons, when they'd be so great with them.
Any troll sized ranged weapon is going to be more artillery piece than anything, and you do not have the hassle of movingartilleryabout the countryside on muddy roads. I personally think really big bows would be terrific for these guys. Ranged landsknetcht ogres would be great, I'm just imagining a ogre sized arquibus ball or crossbow bolt just clearing rows from a pike block.
Although i do understand if they don't provide ranged weapons. Only so much room on the sprue and they are traditionally heavy shock troops.

I love WGA and am SUPER excited about the trolls! (I mean: I have an Ogor-Maw army AND a Astra Militarium army... so two places for this kit to fit in!)
Probably my biggest desire with this set is to have enough sci-fi bits that I can use them as Ogryn/Bullgryn without having to kitbash too much.
Oh, and since this is a thread for WGA:
Has anyone here tried kitbashing with the new "Iron Core - Stormtroopers" models? I noticed they switched out their normal arms on the sprues (going instead with empty hands and glue on weapons) and I wanted to see if others had any info on whether this made kitbashing with 3rd party bits easier or harder.

How well do WGA's historical offerings scale with their Death Fields line?

I have a few of their historical kits and for the most part they are the same height, they just have slightly slimmer proportions on their arms and bodies.
The major difference with the arms, for example, is that some of the sci-fi stuff has big shoulder pads that add to the width of the arm connection (raumjagers in particular), which can make it a bit more difficult to mix parts without some modelling.
I have seen lots of conversions that mixed the Death Field kits with the historicals and they usually look nice, but it will certainly depend on your objectives.
The heavy weapon in the italian kit certainly has some potential as a heavy bolter equivalent.
