Just been told about these guys:

http://www.theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/

They were at my clubs show on Saturday (Leigionary Exeter) and had 15mm masters on show for Soviet Infantry. I was not present as it was the wifes 40th and I had to be dragged from one end of Oxford Street to the other!

These (so Im told) were very, very good. The club were told that these would be released in a matter of weeks after the initial run of 1/72 models were done. The 15mm ones will follow the same format as the 1/72nd.

Do they have any pictures of the figures on their website? I can't seem to find any.

Nope, not as yet. I can only pass on what the other members of my club saw. They were very impressed with them (These were masters, not production figures)

If Id been there Id have taken some photos.

Still Im quite excited by the prospect.

oooo I had seen them somewhere before and was hoping that they might stretch to 15mm as well.

I just picked up the bridge too far boxed set and that has 15mm scale plastic soldiers (brits, german, US) but only a few poses total. The detail is about 90% of the level of the metals but the mould lines, flash and base beveling are much less work to clean up, so as long as they were painted with thin paints they would work out better than the metals. I understand they were created by scanning evan's actual models, cleaning them up in software and sticking them on a sprue.

A fully plastic 15mm infantry force would be so much more gentle on the wallet and need a lot less cleanup. Here's hoping they look great!

If I remember I think it was £10 for 67 figures. Cant argue with that! lol

And Soviets too! I think I might of died and gone to wargaming heaven.

Although affordable infantry would be great, I am really looking forward to plastic vehicles since (I think) they would be much easier to assemble -- I am in the process of gluing the track guards onto A30 Challengers at the moment and it is driving me mad.

That would be nice. The resin alternatives Im finding are fine up to a point but extra crisp detail would be nice.

I dont tend to glue metal vehicles together, I greenstuff them together, so much easier.

I am also using more greenstuff these days at well -- there are often gaps with metal parts (and almost always the tabs or pegs to fit pieces together don't work well)

A member of my club emailed for details, this was the reply:

Your eyes are not deceiving you ! We are definitely planning to produce our sets in 15mm as well as 20mm. As soon as the 20mm comes off the machine, we have a 15mm tool laid out and ready to go.

Given the steep learning curve we have been climbing, i am loathe to set any dates. Lets just say i want the 15mm set out as fast as humanly possible and am pushing it hard. I am hoping weeks, rather than months.

Best regards
Will

Plastic Soldier had an ad in this months Wargames Illustrated saying that the 15mm Russians were coming soon but I still can't see anything about it on their webpage.

The ad also said they would have plastic Vehicles

15mm is the same scale as 1/72... correct?

Not really. 20mm is 1/72. 15mm is 1/100th.

Actually...

1/72 is 25mm.

20mm is 1/87

15mm is 1/100

I think those are ture if 20mm and 25mm were the size they were "supposed" to be. With the scale creep of most modern ranges of figures, 20mm gamers seem to use 1/72 and 1/76 vehicles and 25mm use 1/56 and 1/48 (And I came across a 1/100 scale model of a truck and it was quite small compared to my 15mm figures).

Agreed. 1/72 have been the preferred choice for 20mm forever. 28mm use 1/48th and 15mm use 1/100th.

These scales have never matched up completely but that is the status quo for wargamers.

Of course, but the correct measurement for 1/72 is 25mm.

Alot of plastic figures are 25mm, but they are very thin and proportioned.

20mm metal figures look daft next to 1/87th stuff... They look too big. Its all about the bulk.

Actually 1/72 is not the only choice. Alot of gamers use 1/76th scale models... Indeed alot of resins and plastic kits (Britannia, Milicast, Frontline, Matchbox/Revell, Airfix etc) are in 1/76th. The use of 1/72 is fairly recent since the late 90s when model kits changed to it from 1/76th. It was always the scale for model aircraft while vehicles were 1/76th in the main. That all changed and the likes of the pre-painted Dragon models has increased the popularity of 1/72. My '20mm' collections use both scales, I just dont do the same vehicle in two scales in the same army.

I would also say in terms of historical gamers, most 28mm players are now using 1/56th scale models from the likes of Warlord, JTFM, Imprint etc for their gaming. 1/48th scale models look too big next to most 28mm figures. They look great next to 1/48th scale figures though...

1/87th Railway buildings (HO Scale) look pretty good with 15mm figures.

I never did bother to seperate 1/72 - 1/76. It was all just 20mm to me.

£2.50 Matchbox kits, ahhh those were the days.......

Yer me too... Though some people have real issues with that! I just dont have the same vehicle in different scales and it all works to me.

Dont ever put an Airfix Sherman next to a HAT one... It looks like a baby and its mummy.

You were buying Matchbox kits when I was then... Nice to see them all rereleased.

I will get a box of the 15mm Soviets when they come out (and I have probably reached the point where I have as much Soviet infantry as I am ever likely to play with)

You can never have too many Soviet Infantry... Remember...

"Quantity has a quality all of its own..."
