I think if someone were to make a video game based off of 40k, like Gears of War (over the shoulder gritty 3rd person shooter) with Star Wars Battlefront (fight over control points ) or even Frontline Fuel of War (fight over control points over the "frontline", though this would be more for guardsmen) and have the opposing armies being Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines, allow customization of classes, and other things like that would be totally BAD-ASS

Just thought I would throw that out there.

Discuss if ye want.

Nah, thats no where near what I am saying. Warhammer 40k: Space Marine looks more like Fables combat meets Dynasty Warriors to me.

I'm talking about something like your fighting over control points, with victory points dwindling as you die, and then the control points on the map replenish them. But its done like Gears of War, where it makes you think your a small part of a larger conflict.

Yeah, Gears of War was consolised crap.

The ultimate 40k game would be Planetside. Only with better graphics. Seriously, check out this vid. It's an MMOFPS where each faction fights an endless war over a territory, with tanks and drop-pods and... well, everything you can see in that vid.

I concur with this statement. I loved the hell out of that game. Hopefully some of it's influence will find it's way into the 40k MMO.

I always liked the idea of a modern Space Hulk game. Let you pick and choose your squad like you would in Rainbow Six, then go through Space Hulks completing missions. I know there was a similar game back in the mid 90s, but a newer version would be ace. I also like the idea of a Brothers in Arms-style game: an FPS where you command a squad of guardsmen/Marines/what have you. You'd have to tweak it a bit to make close combat viable, but I love the idea.

OK, Natural Selection - the Half-Life mod? That would translate great to 40k, I think.

I dunno if any of you guys played it - but it wasn't that big, so I'll explain it.

Essentially it was a FPS - you went, you got some objectives, you shot guys, You got upgrades.

How it was different was one guy was a commander, and would sit in a control module. For him it was a completely different game. He had a top down view, and could see all the friendly units - much like an RTS. He would set objectives, and tell guys what to do and where to go. He could drop weapons and armor upgrades into the field as needed. In practice, with a good commander, you had him dropping the best loot on the players who did the most to advance the team goals. The guys who went and freelanced, doing whatever? They tended not to get drops and medkits. In practiced it made for a great squad based game. We could assume the commander in the game was actually a fleet commander about the battle barge.

The aliens in the game were also awesome - you started off as a default unit, and then would mutate into whatever you wanted, depending on how many points you earned. You were vulnerable while mutating. Also, some units could fly, which was sweeet. These guys would be great converted into tyranids, with the hive mind controlling.

Anyway, I think that that would be great.
