Hi all!

Just doing a little research and wanted to know what your ideal bust size would be. Like the title says i don't want your opinion on the fleshy kind So far the hobbyists i have spoken to have said they would prefer busts in a larger size than what is currently out there on the market.

Another question to all you bust lovers is where do you normally display your busts? In a cabinet? ontop of the fireplace, on a shelf, next to the t.v.?

Many thanks!

Human head sized.

Would be cool to paint them up in marble or bronze effect if they were decent.

1:1 scale is nice for obvious reasons, but not everybody has that kind of space. Being a fan of master replica stuff, I find that .45 scale (at least the helmets) is acceptable as well.

In all seriousnesslessness I think as far as busts go, I wouldn't scrimp on the detail, if anything in that department a bust should be top heavy.

we can tell by your avatar

So, I was in this place people call the mall a while back. And I had the urge to expel some bad spirits. As I went into the bathroom, I chose the urinal closes to the corner so I could have some privacy. So I whip out Lord Pevincy and let him loose the bad spirits. Well, I was looking at the wall as the Lord was expelling the spirits and I seemed to have gotten distracted. Turns out, I missed a little.

SO I'm sitting at my computer right, and I have a Coke, Bottled mind you. But it got warm, so I got a Coffie cup and I filled it with the coke and some Ice and I sipped as I did my internet stuff. So like and hour passed and I hadn't sipped any of it. and when I go to sip it, I notice that something solid is in it. So I'm like, "No, why would there be something solid in my coke?" SO I pull these solid THINGS off my tongue and guess what they are? F ING ANTS! I was like WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And so I ran into the Kitchen coughing and what not and I threw those little bastards down the drain with a flood of hate and cold water.......those bastards are lucky I don't have my Nucians yet!!!

I think you would get better results and less jokes if you provided examples with a 28mm mini for scale.

I personally have never purchased a bust though.

That was serious not double innuendo.

I SO knew i would end up creating a thread that would go off topic in an instant, just like my coffee
How do i know that whatever i say regarding busts is gonna sound wrong.
@Shaman I don't have any busts to compare at the moment. I'm just getting an overall feel of what people like best before starting a project that i have lined up.

Anyone else want to have their say about their preferred bust size. On another forum it has been mentioned that they like them on the smaller side as they like to hold them up when painting them. What do you think?

Thanks for the serious input and the many smiles along the way.

I've never tried painting them but I definitely like holding a good bust.

I went into this thread expecting lots of jokes, but no one ever bothered giving any explanation. When I was growing up, my friend's parents had a 1:1 scale bust of Julius Caesar. Now that I think about it, it would be fun to paint the whole thing. Are we just talking about any kind of busts? Or are there specifically warhammer/wargamming related ones?

I'm at work, so I'll have to wait until I get home to google 'warhammer busts'. I can just imagine trying to explain that one to the IT police.

You would of thought we was talking about the fleshy kind but I'm referring to busts that are for the fantasy/sci-fi genres.

How about some examples. Do you have any in progress or ones that you are thinking about getting or making one?

never really thought of sculpting or painitng busts. i know the biggest pet peeve i have of any model is when they require lots of cleaning, or other maintence. so make upkeep free busts. also something to consider is how do you plan on transporting them? i imagine with larger size they will weigh more, an if your planning on selling them packaging might be a concern. make sure they have the proper supportive packaging! otherwise, as long as the proportions are all as they should be, id love to see the finished results.

1:1 as far as the traditional art type goes. Placement really depends, I have a TK helmet in my office, and a half sized Alien on a book shelf. However in Cabo San Lucas, at Cabo Wabo Sammy Hagar (he owns the place) has a Hallway for his Bronze Busts, and it is conveniently located on the path to the restroom.

As someone that has done some body-painting, I have to say when it comes to painting the fleshy ones, smaller is better.

As far as my personal choice on the matter, as far as looks go, I am an ass/legs guy with eyes/smile being a close second

1:1 for marble/bronze traditional busts on pedestal.

If for painting I agree with thegrav, smaller is much better, maybe 1:4 at largest.

Actually, I think that also applies to models too... if you can't hold it in one hand, it's too big. At that point, go 1:1 or go bust.
