Don't get me wrong, I love my Guard army, but I've been thinking about digging up some of the old wheeled heavy weapons or else converting my own as the supposed man-portibility of the heavy weapons just doesn't seem right to me! I mean, does anyone seriously believe that the IG heavy weapons could actually be transported any distance by just two people (As the current Cadian and Catachan plastics clearly suggest)? Even in modern times, it is common to split the weight of the squad automatic weapon between 3 people (one guy has the weapon, the other the tripod, the third the ammo). On top of that, the weapons are huge! The Autocannon, for example, is taller than the guardsmen that are supposed to transport it!

Of course, I could just chalk this up to "Heroic Scale" and get on with it .

In battle, two men would be fine. Despite the technological decay of the Imperium almost eveything is made out of more advanced material than we have. Stronger and lighter.

I would believe that the weapons are lighter and engineered to be moved quickly. Most likely they are light enough to heft up on a shoulder and run.

That's it in a nutshell, really. All of the weapons in the game are scaled up for effect. Even basic weapons like lasguns and bolters are really ridiculously huge...

The miniatures aren't really meant to be to scale. They're pushed out of normal proportions in order to look better on the tabletop.

This is quite right. You could always try to downsize the weapons to a more portable looking size, rather than putting carriages on them.

What's more likely, that the imperium has invented some sort of new wonder material, or that they just put commissars behind every heavy weapons team that complains about how heavy the guns are?

As for putting them on wheeled chassis, I agree. That's why I converted some up for my own guys:

Not only do they fit onto 60mm bases rather well, but you can also swap out the lascannon for basically any other weapon with ease.

You're all missing the point here! The imperium gets all of its weapons from forge worlds, and as we all know, everything from forge worlds are made of Resin that breaks into a million little pieces when your bloody girlfriend picks up your just completed Elysian Venator, remarks, 'gee, this is lighter than I thought' and then promptly fumbles it, not, once, not even twice, but thrice, until it snaps in twain in her hands and the remainder eats marble floor!

OK see that's what I'm talking about. Some people say Resin is like glass. Does it suck or does it not suck?

Nah, it doesn't suck, but it is more fragile. When you drop a normal GW trooper they usually bounce off the floor and at worst an arm breaks off at the glue seam. Forgeworld stuff can crack in a part of the model you don't expect it to.

That being said, I've never dropped my own models, they're usually own goals!

Their also harder to work with because the resin is harder than plastic and resin dust is a bit toxic, so you need a good sander and a mask if your sanding it down, but that aside the models are pretty sweet. Some people say thier display only, but I game with mine...just dont let girls near them (not that this is usually an issue for most 40k players!)

But no, they don't suck...of course they are a lot more expensive too, but in Australia, its still cheaper for me to buy from England FW than buy in GW stores over here!

Oh hell yeah, I love the Krieg models too, but yeah, I'm too lazy as well! Plus, too expensive to buy that many infantry that are just glorified meat shields...not that I don't love my guard any less for thier kruddlieness!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In all seriousness, though, go for it! I think they de-wheeled them because before it looked like they could do moving fire, seeing as they were on wheels, so they made them look more stationary. I knew a guy who included little motorized platforms (mules I think they're called) that he would load them up into when they moved, and a turn later he would put them on the ground to show they had set up and could shoot.

Heh, but more importantly, what happened to the broken model? I hope it went into some nice crashed terrain piece, albeit expensive.
