We're right at the start of our Nova Crux Campaign here in sunny east London - Eldar raids have increased in the Lewisainne subsector and nearby Astartes elements have responded. Clashes between ships are common, leading to many boarding incidents, so here is our second battle - White Scars vs Eldar in the corridors of an Imperial ship.

We played 750pts Seize Ground over two sets of Space Hulk floor tiles with the following house rules to make things run smoothly.

- 10-man minimum unit sizes are dropped - you only have to have 5 of them (otherwise it gets a bit bunched up)
- Models can stand on/see through the black areas of the tiles well as the 'printed' areas.
- Any model slightly 'off' the tiles is destroyed (for the purposes of DS)
- Any unit can hold an objective.
- Only infantry models can be taken, no Jump Infantry, Bikes, Cavalry, Vehicles etc.. (Warp Spiders are the exception since they don't need headroom to 'jump')

Panic's Eldar

* Farseer (Mind War)
* 8 Warp Spiders including Exarch
* 4 Wraithguard and a Spiritseer (Enhance)
* 4 Wraithguard and a Spiritseer (Enhance)
* 5 Striking Scorpions including Exarch

ArbitorIan's White Scars

* Chaplain in Terminator Armour (Combi-flamer)
* 5 Assault Terminators (3 TH/SS, 2 LC)
* 5 Vanguard Veterans (2 PW/BP, 2 CS/PP, 1 PF/BP)
* Tactical Squad (Sgt with PF, Heavy Bolter, Plasmagun)

We set up 12" from the backmost piece of spaceship, White Scars winning the roll for first setup and first turn. The Farseer deployed with the Scorpions on the right side of the board, and the rest of the army on the left. The Vanguard Vets held the right side for the White Scars, with the Terminators, Chaplain and Heavy Bolter combat squad in the middle and the Sgt/Plasma combat squad on the left.

In the opening turns, mostly everyone advanced. The central combat squad took the central objective, and the leftmost combat stood their ground and fired on the Warp Spiders, without much success.

However, in the second turn everything got a lot closer. The sgt/plasma combat squad were able to advance into rapid fire range of the Warp Spiders and kill enough to make them fall back. The Vanguard Vets got the charge on the Striking Scorpions and Farseer, killing all the Scorpions and making the Farseer flee.

In the Eldar turn both of these units rallied - the Warp Spiders risked a jump to a different corridor, closing on the left objective, and the Farseer killed one Vanguard with Mind War and another in assault. (Actually, this was a mistake as the Farseer shouldn't have been able to rally at all - withing 6" of an enemy - but oh well..... )

In the third turn the plasma combat squad closed on the Warp Spiders, hoping to wipe them out with rapid firing, but the shooting wasn't as good - the plasma gunner even blew himself up. The Terminators and Chaplain got the charge on the leading Wraithguard squad, wiping them out to a man without any casualties, and was charged in turn by the second Wraithguard squad. The remaining Warp Spiders, with a combination of spinners and assault, wiped out the Sgt/Plasma combat squad and took the left objective.

The next few turns became some longrunning assaults. The Farseer finally whittled down the Vanguard Vets and took the right objective and the Terminators did suprisingly badly against the second Wraithguard squad - the only weapons with a reliably high strength were the thunder hammers, and all the wound allocation rolls went the wrong way.

By the end of the game, it looked as though the Eldar had it sewn up, so the heavy bolter tactical squad moved off their objective to move towards the remaining Warp Spiders. With all the Terminators dead, the Chaplain finally managed to kill enough of the Wraithguard to send them fleeing, and moved back towards the central objective.

However, the game ended on turn 5, before the White Scars' last minute plan could come into play, and the score was Eldar 2 Marines 0. (We actually played the last turn just to see what happened, and the game easily turned, ending Eldar 1 Marines 2, but it was all a bit too late...!). Eldar win the boarding action!

very cool idea with the Space Hulk & I really like what you've got going with the overall campaign. Nice special rules for the scenario, too...
also, loving the painting on both of those armies!

one question, though, why did the Wraithguard flee there at the end? [edit] actually, after looking at the pictures, it appears they are dead [I have very poor, and at this point, blurry vision, but I don't see them anymore], maybe from the Chaplain?

looking forward to more of this campagin.

Looking forward to the next part of the campaign!

And really great looking figs, finely painted and old school models.

Mephiston isn't a space marine, he's a tornado with a sword.

Smacking the crap out of Hive Fleet Leviathan.

Wraithguard are Fearless btw. Great report, I always love small point battle reports because they have much more spazz and detail than large battles.

Agreed that space hulk battle is a great idea, something I will also try. Probably form a campaign of some sort.

Awesome. I haven't been playing 40k very long and mostly play smaller scenarios against the same opponent. Ideas like this are exactly the kinds of things we strive for, though not quite this successfully yet. What really made me go "YES" was the Wave Serpents docked against the Imperial ship, with ramps extended. Even though they weren't a part of the game itself, the atmosphere they set is killer. Doesn't hurt to have two very spiffy armies, either.

Fantastic format.

We used to do similar stuff at the end of the 90's and start of the 2000's.

Thanks for the report.

A very interesting concept mixing Space Hulk with regular 40K. Sounds pretty fun the more I think about it.

I thought deathspinners were rapid-fire weapons, meaning they couldn't shoot them and assault?
