Hi guys, ive been interested in starting necromunda for as long as i can remember but ive never been toooo happy with the miniatures, especially with them being metal making them very hard to convert.

I was wondering if any of you awesome people might have any suggestions for alternative models (from any game range atall, not just GW) that you like to use??

Also buildings are important so any buildings you like to use.

Im big on conversions but i haven't really built scenery before so i'm more interested in buying it than building it unless there are fantastic building tutorials anyone knows of.

Thanks for any replies guys!!! looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say!!

Urban Mammoth do some nice figs...

http://www.urbanmammoth.com/acatalog/

They also do some building sets...

I went for a more 'Cyberpunk' feel to my Necromunda project using figures from Copplestone Castings and the Corporate Wars range from Platoon20...

You can see some of the models I used here...

Lots of suitable figures available in 28mm. Try also EM-4 for the old Grenadier 'Future Wars' range, Foundry's 'Street Violence' range and Pig Iron if you want more military types.

Here's the list of links I give to anyone asking about escher models, though many of these sites have models that work work for other gangs.

A little smaller than average - check individual model heights to see if they'd be noticably smaller.

Reaper's Chronoscope range is excellent, and frequently updated. There's also plenty of fantasy stuff.

http://www.arcaneminiatures.co.uk/anima-tactics-miniatures.asp?offset=0
These are a little taller than average. It's pretty much a fantasy line though, so might only be useful for sword wielders.

http://www.arcaneminiatures.co.uk/infinity-miniatures.asp
Not bought any of these yet myself, but there's a great variety of minis armed with everything from rifles to rocket launchers.

http://www.arcaneminiatures.co.uk/wyrd-miniatures.asp
Again, not bought any of these yet, but there's a few choice figures that would be good for an escher gang.

http://www.blackscorpionminiatures.com/default.asp
I picked up some of their pirate girls to use for juves - £6.50 for 4, or another pack at £7.50 for 5.

Only found the one mini here I'd consider using, but you might find the site useful for other things.

Okay, this one I've got just for potential conversion bits. They've just released a nice new heavy machine gun.

http://www.theassaultgroup.co.uk/store/home.php
Various theatres of war represented, including modern, in both bits form and actual minis, though I suspect the latter will be of lesser interest to you.

Mainly scenery, but check out the Heresy minis under sci-fi figures. Not the original source, but the original source has an awful website.

@The Dreadnote = that thread shows pretty much what i wanted to create =D i have to say tho (alil off topic) the panzer cops in jin roh were the inspiration for the hellghast =P

i think imperial guard bodies should be fine but i wanted longer coats, i could green stuff it but ive tried that before....didnt turn out to good but practice makes perfect! hee hee i do so hope i can finally get into necromunda!

look at the VASA models from urban mammoth, or just look for plastic German WW2 models and convert them to Necromunda standards.

A lot of models from Infinity would be amazing for Necromunda. You could even make up some of your own Necromunda rules for the ones that don't match the Necromunda gangs...

You are right, though some Necromunda models have stood the test of time, many of them suck now. One of GW's stupidest mistakes ever was discontinuing Necromunda then failing with Gorkamorka ("Let's take our worst selling minis and make a whole game out of them!!!!") and then failing again with Inquisitor. If they had made Inquisitor 54mm Necromunda or had made Gorkamorka Necromunda on wheels, they would still be selling those games today...

@ big P - hurrah for Sinister Dexter! Man I need to get my hands on all those minis. what did you use?

Run a whole lot of wfrp and other rpg's, play The Woods and Kill Team, gather and look mournfully at imperial guard knowing I'll never finish enough to use them on the tabletop

Ah yes Archibald Jack's thread, This has inspired me too start Necromunda....First things first though, ill have to get people to play too.

As for suggestions, maybe convert some DKOK or Steel legion model?

Also. Pig iron productions sell some good looking heads to put on your models (see the thread Dreadnote linked up.)

Good luck.

@ Kasrkinlegion, im in love with infinity models now, i intend to make my next gang from their range, sheer brilliance them guys,

@ Ultra mortalitas, i got the pig iron heads =P love the things, im lucky on the gaming friends side, my friends play 40K mostly, they are open to playing anything though, monry is always an issue but seeing as im the most talented modeller/painter amongst my friends (not a self given title mind ) i dont mind making the gangs =P

Does any of this stuff come up on ebay at all?
(will do an ebay search later)

The kids at the library wanted to play Necromunda so have this week initated NecroMondays! (see what I did there?)

At the moment we are having to use 40k stand ins which is okay but not ideal.
Therefore need some gangs on a low budget- me that is not the gangs, though they don't have a lot of cash yet either.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Most of the bits of the game come up on ebay fairly often - bulkheads, cardstock, models, rule books etc.

Mostly for quite a lot of money

I definately don't advise buying the bulkheads individually as they are usually an absolute rip off, but if you can get a set, you can print off the templates/designs of the cardstock and glue it onto some stiff card.

It might also be worth searching for gorkamorka terrain as well - they use the same bulkhead system and card terrain, which fits in pretty well with the necromunda stuff and adds some interest.

You can also download the rules for free from the GW site and print them out. I've found that 4 pages per A4 sheet is big enough you can still read the text fairly easily.

@ chibi bodge-battle= i think one of the hardest aspects of this game is trying to get affordable and good looking terrain. Ive invested in Hirts arts moulds and am making a brilliant gaming table atm. its slow but its fun, Hirst arts moulds are top notch IMO.

Ive heard of printable cardboard buildings and stuff like that that you can build for terrain. personally i like it make everything, its alot of the fun for me but if your on a budget then cardboard stuff would be awesome for u.

Not worried too much about the terrain as I will build it myself.

Would be better to get the kids involved but they are more concerned with playing

The moulds sound great Rofliron! Walkways deatailing is going to be a problem as don't want to spend to much time but don't fancy simple planks!
(Simple plank? sounds a lot like me )

The kids have said they will probably get their own gangs eventually so that takes some pressure off.
The main thing is that thy really seem to enjoy it so far, even with the very crude and hastily made terrain we had last night.

Now can anyone tell me where I can buy a good gamers brain, this is definitely something I desperately need!

thanks for all the help btw chaps!
ps am building a chemical plant type thing from rubbish so will try and pop up a thread. Am trying not to take forever like I normally do, so it won't be as detailed as I would like. Hopefully it will be okay for gameplay.

Necromunda terrain is really, really easy to make. The cardboard stuff looked like crap anyway. If you can't get cheap bulkheads, you can always use the new 40k terrain GW currently has. Armorcast also has some great industrial stuff which is pretty cheap.

Going to use magnetic strip on the walkways and supports so it will be a fleixible system that will pack away easily.

Have nearly completed constructing the first bit of terrain, and hopefully will have it primed on Tuesday so will pop up some pics if anyone is interested.

That armourcast stuff looks nice. Still beyond my budget at the moment- but does look reasonable.

The kids at the library club love Necromunda!
They seem to want to play it more than 40K at the moment

apologies for the self publicity, but have posted some pics of the Chemplant part1 I made for them
