would it be possible to do an airmobile gaurd army???
i dont play gaurd my self but i was just curious if it was possible.

especially for capture objective games.
wait till turn 3. put a squad or two down on your OBJ then contest the other 2 till the end of game.

I've been giving it some serious thought for my budding guard army. Valk with Melta Vets it supposed to be pretty deadly vs vehicles, or put those in a vendetta and put another vet squad with flamers or something in valk to wipe out hordes...hmmm......<goes off to tinker with army list>

Vendetta's would be the prefferable choice. 3 twin-linked lascannons? Even without all the other lovely gizmos that alone is nasty to some armour units. Mix up your vets with a combination of Melta (always lovely) and something for the hordier armies, toasty flamer-time?

i ran up a quick, small point list.
lord commisar
vendeta
Valkerie
2X veterans

for a starter air mobile army.
anyone have any thoughts on how well this will work?
(again i do not play guard and don't know much about them.)

Air guard are an alpha strike army, meaning you want to hit hard, fast and FIRST! I am tempted to put together this army, but scared that it will either win big or lose big and it is very expensive (luckily GW has made plastic Valkyries as FW resin ones would make this list much harder on the wallet.)

I personally would go for something like this:

1xCCS w/plasma, medic in Vendetta - 255pts

3xMelta vets w/shotguns in Valkyries - 690pts

2xPlasma vets w/lasguns in Vendettas - 490pts

total: 1435pts

which means you could drop the medic and make the 3 melta squads demolition's as well or keep the medic and make 2 squads demolitions. For the last 5 points you could give the company commander melta bombs.

bang 1500pts

I think I would drop the medic personally and pick up three demolition squads.

or another option would be:

1xCCS w/2 Melta's and Valkyrie - 200pts

5xMelta vets w/shotguns and demolitions in Valkyries - 1300pts (again you can mix and match Valkyries and Vendettas, personally I would go with a 50/50 split with magnetized vehicles)

The problem with air mobile is that Valks are pretty fragile and dont'have fire points, so to use your firepower you need to get out. Also, the squadron rules make them even more fragile (with immobilized counting as destroyed). It's a fun list, and has some punch, but you don't have the saying power of mechanized.

Yes you can but when they get out at 24'' they scatter. So it can be really good but its a little dangerous.

all very true facts.
valks are somewhat fragile but the 4up save is prety good!
i do agree about the scatter and all but still!
fly 24", geta 4 up save and drop some troops along the way!!!!
now the valk does not need to keep going in the same direction right?
because you could fly 12" out then 12" back and drop the troops at the turn point.

you only get the cover save for total movement, so if you are talking about moving a total of 0 inches, i don't think it counts and you don't get the cover. (eg, you can't "vibrate" your tank forward/backwards 1" a bunch of times to get a bonus against mellee without moving)

since you are dropping troops it might be a different store, ask gwar.

what i mean is move from pint A 12", drop troops then move back to point C (B being where you drop troops) 12". point C not being the same as A. (think of the points on a triangle.
