I did this terrain piece as my first attempt at doing a mosaic from vinyl tiles. I think it worked out really nicely. Tell me what you all think. I've included a couple of pictures of the piece, and a pic with a Space Marine for scale comparisons. It wound up being seven inches by seven inches, and pretty light (comparable weight to my TV remote). What do you all think?

It looks great, and will be a neat piece of terrain for any battlefield.

I have a design for an Imperial Aquila I wanted to do in tile, but it would end up being nearly three feet long. What do you guys think? Would it be worth the effort?

That's like asking if making a titan is worth the effort. YES. Even if it doesn't work out you'll still have a cool aquila

That looks like it would be a cool centerpiece for a Chaos temple. Have you thought of building a cathedral or something similar? That kind of simple tilework lends itself well to that sort of board.

I thought about adding a sacrificial altar to this one. The temple idea I was saving for the big Aquila. I think I might do another Chaos one, but painting the symbol of a chaos god on each of the tiles of the chaos symbol. Not really sure about that one. I never did this before, but I really like the way it turned out. I'm looking forward to working with this technique in the future. I'd like to find some kind of material to put between the tiles to look like grout or cement, but I don't want it to be too expensive or time consuming (which is why I discounted green stuff, it costs too much).

"Straight Fething Silver" Tanith first and only

I have a reputation, Modile, a reputation as a fair, honest man who treats his soldiers well and supports them in the face of darkness. Potentially, that reputation makes me soft. It seems I understand failure and forgive it. Some, like Kowle, believe me to be a weak commissar, not prepared to take the action my rank demands. Not prepared to enforce field discipline where I see it failing. I am an Imperial commissar. I will enflame the weak, support the wavering, guide the lost. I will be all things to all men who need me. But I will also punish without hesitation the weak, the incompetent, and the treasonous.
I am a Commissar. I am empowered to deliver justice wherever I see it lacking. I am empowered to punish cowardice. I am granted the gift of total authority to judge, in the name of the Emperor, on the field of combat.

If you want it to be actual, life-like terrain, just chuck some sand+grass into the gaps, maype wash it with devlan mud. Otherwise, it looks brilliant.

Looks pretty good. I wouldn't paint between the cracks though- leave them plain white (or grey) IMO. In addition, I think the scale of your chunks could be slightly smaller to increase 'realism'.

Still an excellent piece of terrain, and much kudos for not simply buying GW brand, and using your imagination!

I agree the pieces could be smaller, a technique I intend to try with the next piece. As to doing adding some sand/grass into the cracks, I would like to. This piece I wanted to look as though it were tended to, but I would like to do some work with dilapidated pieces as well. The only problem is that I can't get the grass I bought to cooperate.

If you wanted to keep the effect of the arrows being 'painted' (for lack of a better word) on around the tiles, I suggest maybe using burnt grass or dead grass in the arrow shapes, or staining the sand or grass within the arrows boundaries with Baal Red or some other wash.
