So I was reading the IG codex and was wondering if anyone tried running 3 IG deathstrike Missiles...
Despite being a little unreliable, 3 of them might lead to 1 firing off the second turn or third turn...
The only counter to 3 of those missiles that I could imagine would be to leave your army in reserve....
What do you guys think?

I have to admit, I miss the old Infantry battles of 4E compared to this 5E wonderland of APCs/IFVs everywhere. It's like we jumped from WWI to WWII.

So I am guessing from the lack of response that either no has tried it and they are testing it out... or no one wants to talk about it...

Death strike missiles, while their fluff makes them out to be really uber awesome, simply aren't very good. It's a D3+3" blast. Which is about on par with a regular heavy blast. And it comes at a random time and can only be used once. Get a Manticore and hit them 2 times every round at 10/4 for four rounds.
Or even better, get a LRBT and blast them over and over again for the entire match, running them over if they try and get away. Or a bunch of Medusas.
IG have too many SQUADRONS of really nice Heavy Support to waste then on 1shot, delayed fire weapons that just aren't that good. I mean, what if you wait 3 turns and they scatter wrong? You just wasted your entire Heavy Support on nothing. Well, a heavy bolter platform. But that's not a good deal IMHO.

Deathstrikes are one of those "terrible, but fun" units they seem to be adding to every new codex release.
Sure, it's a S10 hit at a d3+3" radius, with no cover saves allowed, and full damage to any vehicles caught in the radius. BUT, it scatters. IG shooting skills just aren't enough to make it reliable.
If you get lucky and it goes off on turn 2-3, you might nuke somehting good, if your scatter isn't bad. But, against a mobile army that drives toward your lines, a bad scatter can put the whole blast right into the midst of YOUR lines. I know if I saw three of those bad boys on the table, I'd just floor it and get as close to you as I could, maybe even tarpittnig myself with your infantry if possible.
But, they are a fun, unpredictable unit. Proxy up three of them, and try it out for a few games.

Something to point out...the deathstrike has a D3+3" RADIUS blast, while the conventional large blast template is 5" DIAMETER. That means that the deathstrike has, on average, a 10" diameter blast, which is equivalent to the large apocalypse template.
Still, while that might seem funky in regular 40k, deathstrikes are too vulnerable and too random to be of much use. They are good in Apoc though, where the extra big templates and no FoC can make a big difference.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live? |

Exactly, a lot of people seem to forget that radius = half the diameter.
so its a [(d3+3)*2] inch blast. maximum size being a 12" wide blast marker, that doesnt have a center hole and hits full strength on any vehicles touched by any part of the marker ...
Im thinking of buying 3 of the kits and mabye 7 or 8 more chimeras and platoon it up and surround the deathstrikes 2 or 3 deep with chimeras, wait for the world to asplode.

There's nothing unclear about the rules at all. It's all plainly spelled out in the codex entry.

They cannot go off first turn... They can go off second turn on a 5+ however...
With 3 of them, I imagine your opponent will be hard pressed to kill them all!

They also say it cant be shot the first turn, so no, youll never get to the stage to see the weapons readiness to fire,a s thats done "when firing".
As you cant fire you cant roll the die too see if it comes 6 and launches.

My local group likes deep striking all or part of the army. My SM list currently consists of several drop pods w/ meltas inside to counter weapons such as those. If memory serves they have 12-960 inch range meaning they are most likely used in large apocalypse style matches

If drop podding melta is a problem, take 2 infantry platoons of guardsmen in chimeras and box in the deathstrikes 2 deep.
