If anybody has any good tips for layering white to look good I sure could use a hand.

For white robes I do about 2 light layers of drybrushed white, and then a watered down layer of white. This is then washed with grey or black depending on the shadowing, and then I just drybrush more white on top until I think it looks okay.

It may be more helpful if you post the item that is being painted white, as cloth is painted differently then carapce.

Aside from using the old 'multiple thin layers' technique, there is something else you could do...

Use a slightly off-white colour as your base, as these often have much better coverage than pure white and will need less coats to get solid. Then simply blend up to pure white! This has the added advantage of doing your shading for you too: I usually paint a mix of ice blue, shadow grey and white onto the area, then just add more white to the mix as i build up the highlights.

It depends on how much white you want on the model, but you could always just prime with a white primer. For example, on my White Scars, I usually prime with white, then apply a watered down wash of Badab Black, and then add in highlights with Skull White again. It's fairly easy and looks pretty good.

Do you have any pictures of your White Scars? I'm considering a similar paint scheme on IG and would like to see the final product, this sounds simple enough that it could be done on a large army pretty quick.

For white I basecoat the area with astronmicon grey, then apply lots of thin layers of white to get a crisp white.

For painting white I use a thin layer of codex grey, then a thin layer of astronomican grey, then a layer of skull white. no pics yet of anything I've painted white, but it looks pretty good and it's fairly easy.
