Do you? or do you think we got to the point where we can update thing so well through online updates that it will not happen anytime soon?
I remeber one person awhile ago thinking like that. I mean arent they turning the 360 into a new machine with natal?

We'll definitely see new consoles some time. Consumers enjoy consoles because they are easy to use, and console sales continue to be high. The fact is, there's a lot they can add to consoles; Nintendo's Wii is woefully lacking in processing power, for example, and it's obvious that they will release a new console to fix that (And probably market the processing power as being "new"... LOL). Microsoft's 360 has countless hardware issues. The PS3 has shown a division between motion control and gamepads, and we might see them shift in one direction or the other next generation. Graphics can always be improved.

The question is: Will any of them be more awesome than a good PC? Only if the games are worth it.

i know xbox 720 (yes that is what it is called) is due out spring or summer 2012

Nintendo are rumoured to have a new console nearly ready to do.

Microsoft will probably release an updated XBox in the next couple of years.

PS3 is finally winning. It has the most powerful hardware and can be upgraded by new firmware, so Sony are going to want to make some money off it before releasing PS4.

I don't expect anything anytime soon.

The PS3 is a very long term project, and expanding on it with new types of gaming seems to be the way to go.

The Wii has shown that the majority do not care about processing power but rather the way the game is played.

Anything new from MS is going to be an expansion of the current 360.

In the videogame business, it's software that ships hardware. What can you think of that can't be done on the current consoles that people will buy? Which machine is best adapted for new types of games?

I just hope that they don't go the way Nintendo did with the Wii....

I say wait until the end of this month. For those that don't know, The E-3 expo is later this month and typically features new gear coming out in the next year or so.

Some rumors I have heard is some new mp3/4 players, higher resolution tvs, and some new game gear. (ymmv)

I also heard that City of Heroes/Villians is releasing a new expansion to coincide with the E-3 Expo. Its Called "Going Rogue" and will include a 'Moral Compass' that determines if you are a hero or villian, depending on how you play.

I don't expect anything new in the next-next gen console market for a while - certainly not until the money market has returned to something like normal.

I don't really regard 2015 as soon. We're only halfway through if it is on schedule to 2015.

I expect they will be either more Wii like or possibly not coming at all, as Sony isn't doing too well (iirc).

Actually, I expect more handhelds soon rather than TV consoles. How old are the DS and PSP now?

Well they would be a bit off as the current versions of both are still relitively new. DS still going better than PSP that's seemed to have gone downhill this version.

Sony's literally also only started to profit from the PS3 in marketable terms.

PSN is also getting a premiuim package, have fun with that!

PSP's a pretty failed section for Sony. Yet again they tried to market an entirely new format for data and yet again failed. Mini-disk player? I didn't think so. The 3000 isn't that great either because people like to have solid copies of games.

The DS's new iteration - the 3DS - you can imagine what that means - comes out around the 2011 q2 mark, iirc.

They actually made the mistake twice now that PSP Go solved the minidisk problem by being completely diskless

Nintendo already markets the new DS.. the DSXL 90% larger than the DS.. or something like that.

Yeah that's yet another means to an end for niche filling. A bit like the iPad, come to think about it. Still another great, highly sellable Nintendo product that will make a ton of money.

My dreamcast wants a big bro.

That's doubtful, if true.

Sega's been on a losing streak for the past few years. Even them trying to revive past greats hasn't really excelled.

Sega shut down its hardware producing department years ago and switched to software only to stay afloat after the moderate failure of the dreamcast.

Microsoft is working on the new Xbox and has been for some time, they started work on it not long after the 360 came out.

Sony may or may not be working on the next playstation, as stated above there is a 10 year life cycle, and sony likes to stretch the full cycle out of its systems (PS2 sales are only just now really starting to die)

Nintendo is almost certainly working on a new system, it would be foolish for them not too.

I suspect we will see a new xbox in a couple of years, and a new playstation in 5-7 years. Given the track record I'd say its pretty bad news for current xbox owners however, as all support for the original xbox was dropped immediately after the 360's launch. PS3 owners should enjoy a longer time with their investment, however when the new xbox comes out it may ruin the market for PS3's as game developers seem to have trouble programming in a cell architecture environment.

As for the PSP, Sony is just devoting a LOT of time and money to fight against piracy, something that has plagued the north american market for the past 4 years or so. I personally feel this is an error, as once a system has been "softcracked" (made hackable without modifing hardware, which would be "hardcracked") its virtually impossible to cover the holes in the system. I wouldnt call the PSP a dying system, but Sony's method of trying to stop piracy has lead to some very poor products, the PSP 2000 model was still hackable, the PSP 3000 had a major display problem, and the PSP GO has been hailed as a colossal failure.
