Or if you are worried about getting ripped away from college, but still want to be in the army why not join the reserve? I don't know how you guys do it down south but up here in Canada we get the same medical/educational money if you are in the regular forces or the reserve. Just a thought though.

Oh I also hate to plug other sites, but if you might want to check this site out www.military.com

go for the navy thats wher im going when i get out of high school

think of it this way:

1) when was the last time you herd of a U.S. ship came under attack? i think it was the U.S.S. Cole

2) your in the middle of the ocean (both good and bad)

3) your in a heavly armord ship (you dont  realy have to worry about the guys with AK's)

4) depending on what kind and class of ship your on you may have lots of big AAA and artilery guns

5) more recent navil combats have mostly been fought by aircraft ( in the battle of corl sea i think both US and japanes ships couldnt even see eachother)

6) your not even near the front lines (unless your in navil battle)

7) if you do go to battle agenst another ship you got a big target

but if the marines you like, go for it another way to think of it is this way you put off the draft atleast alittle while and we still need to find binladen (if hes still alive) U.S.A., U.S.A.!!!

Back in the late 60's early 70's the Air Force did some testing as well.  We were required to take the ASVAB before we arrived at basic and then when we got our scores we were told what was available that we qualifed for.  I had one of those garanteed jobs when I enlisted and guess what I had the scores as well.  Well the surprise was when we got orders a bunch of us had signed up to be Firefighters.  The Air Force had too many,  we were given a choice; get out, be a cook, be a cop or be a medic.  Except in my case they said with my scores and the fact I already had medical training in fire/rescue that this was my best choice.

I became a medic and did very well at the job.   So it what you make of it.  One thing about the Air Force is that they would allow you to get the CDC (Training by Speciality) before you had the rank to go with it.  Like going to school just on your own on your time.

Well if you think the marines are the hardest try going into the navy and then volunteering for UDT/ Seal you have too have pretty high AVAB score and then go too schooling( which is any were from 22 too 66 months depents on the school) and then you get too do a 14 week UDT/ Seal training, after all that, you might be lucky and be picked too be on a team.. talking about hardest, I had freinds that went thur that crap and made it, and other ones that washed out due too, medical or just not passing the physical parts of the program... but once you make it you can have choice duty and your in the service for while .....

Not entirely true!

There are plenty of sailors assigned to CentCom and are in there side-by-side with Soldiers and Marines.  Navy EOD teams are regularly going out and clearing IEDs.  Seabees perform many civil engineering projects either on coalition bases or Iraqi communities.  Naval Corpsmen, are out humping packs and rifles with those aformentioned ground units AND the Marines.  Naval aviation units are assigned to coalition airbases, and there's plenty of non-aviation MOSes that are assigned to support them.  Finally, there's other support MOSes that the navy sends to the theatre to support the fight.

All of these guys are exposed to the same level of risk as their Army and Marine Corps counterparts, and I've flown Medevac missions for them all.  There's still plenty of ways to see combat in the navy.

EDIT: Oh, and speaking of Medevac, the Navy does that in theatre too!

Not entirely True they are assigning some Navy personal not spec opps to combat/ support duties in Iraq.

But if you due opp for the navy and you get stationed in hawaii I'll tell you this right now Live off base.  The Navy gives you an insane amount of money to live off base.  I think my brother damn near doubles his base pay as a E5/6 buy living off base.

Oh yeah if you think you can handle it get your dolphins and be a subguy.  It takes a vary unique person to handle the stuff that happens in the those subs.

I'll take a Whisky, some more Whisky and a Chaser of Whisky and a diet Coke.
