Unless, of course, the box is less expensive? Then maybe it'd even out.

But I'm not getting my hopes up.

I believe it's cheaper. Empire Infantry was cut from 16 to 10, but dropped in price as a result. The same is true of other ranges.

The idea is that $35 box sets are out of impulse purchase territory but people will drop $25 on a whim.

Depending on that, then I may not be AS upset.
But this box is still ridiculously expensive, especially now that I see that the pound is TWICE a dollar. I thought it was closer to 1-1.80, but it's actually quite a bit more :(

I'd like to fool mself that i wont buy this, but i will, it's got a wierdboy and a SAG, why wouldn't I buy it, es it is overpriced, yes i will end up with models which have crap rules but at the end of the day I'm a mug and will buy anything with " New ORKSIES" written on it.

as an aside I was thinking of using the Turk as a bubbins sprue to beef up my old trukks otherwise its going to look rediculous with them,,

Um, it pretty much does, or near enough. You get a PK nob and all the rokkits/big shootas you need, where previously you would have needed to buy them in metal. You know, the same metal that is so ridiculously expensive now?

You have remember that GW prices based on what army slot they fill. When the Eldar came out I was gobsmacked at the cost of the Wraithlord compared to a SM Dreadnought. When talking about it with a store manager I was informed that a Dreadnought is £25 and as a Wraithlord is classed as a Dreadnought, that's how much it will cost, what you get for your £25 is irrelevant.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

One thing to keep in mind when considering the price of Commanders and Vet's etc is the volume sold vs. the price of the sprues. If a space marine commander sprue costs 1000$ to make the mold for (not the price of plastic, but of the metal mold itself), and they expect to sell 500 say, they have to price them at more than 2$ to make any profit.

Now, I am told the price of the plastic injection molds is pretty steep, as well as price of designing, sculpting, marketing etc. the figure. So while a marine with bolter and a commander might have generally the same amont of plastic, if they sell 50 times as many marines as commanders, the marines can be a great deal cheaper.

That said, it implies that the orks should be cheaper per boy than per marine, since one conceivably should sell more per player. But one has to keep in mind there are a LOT of marine players vs ork players, so according to their marketing demand plan, they may figure on only selling about as many orks as marines in a given year. Or maybe they are trying to make the money back on the new molds faster. Or the price of crack went up. *shrug* Hard to say without being part of the S&OP process.

It has what, 28 models?
And the eldar army has 37, for the same price. A great many more points too.
Granted, the ork box has more metal (including that huge SAG) in it, but if my mental math is correct, the eldar get a good many more points for 100 pounds.

le sigh :S

Again, I argue that it does no good to compare this army box to previous army boxes because they serve different purposes. The Eldar army was meant to be a real army - two troops, HQ, bunch of support units. A larger version of a battleforce (with a bit of metal.) The Ork Spearhead is all the new models for Orky vets who want them early. Clearly, it makes for the worst starting army of all time, and a marginal add on to an existing army.

Now, I do agree that it would be nice if there was a slight discount on the box, 'cause after attemtping to price it out it doesn't seem to save you any money vs buying the models seperately. If they threw the codex in there it would be great value to me.

I think the 'bonus' is getting the models a month early.

Of course, my painting queue is sitting at 2 years, 8 months, 23 days, 18 hours at the moment, so it wouldn't be a bonus in my case anyway.

Go look for the other thread on this. 10 ork boyz (for someone that has no orks) is a better buy vs the old as it comes with heavy weapons and a nob that used to be metal. For us people with all the metal, it is no help.

22-Dec-07 ORK SPEARHEAD - £100.00 (limited availability)
contains

ORK WARBIKER MOB - £20.00
ORK TRUKK - £18.00
ORK BOYZ - £12.00
ORK LOOTAS/BURNA BOYZ - £12.00
ORK BIG MEK WITH SHOKK ATTACK GUN - £15.00
ORK TANKBUSTAS - £15.00 (7 fig. box)
ORK WEIRDBOY - £10.00 (1 fig. blister)

No real cost savings, but it is a lot of the new models early. It's aimed for people that just want the new stuff. An army box is suppose to be released after the 2nd wave, and will be the plastics bargain.

The Battleforce is a better buy for those that are starting armies. But for people like me that need all of the above ( I really like the new tankbustas), it's a way to get all the new stuff in a box, and for Christmas, it's practically free!! (santa brings it and all....)

12-Jan-08 ORK CODEX - £12.00
12-Jan-08 ORK WARBIKER MOB - £20.00
12-Jan-08 ORK TRUKK - £18.00
12-Jan-08 ORK BOYZ - £12.00
12-Jan-08 ORK LOOTAS/BURNA BOYZ - £12.00
12-Jan-08 ORK BIG MEK WITH SHOKK ATTACK GUN - £15.00
12-Jan-08 ORK TANKBUSTAS - £15.00 (7 fig. box)
12-Jan-08 ORK WEIRDBOY - £10.00 (1 fig. blister)
12-Jan-08 ORK PAINBOY - £6.00 (1 fig. blister)

26-Jan-08 ORK BATTLEFORCE - £50.00
26-Jan-08 ORK KILLA KAN - £12.00 (says it is 1 fig. box)

So the boyz will be, most likely, $25 US? And the Trukk $35?

Eh, could be worse. It seems its really the big mek that shoots that price up, its more expensive than 10 boyz, I didn't see that coming!

With all that in plastic, you almost don't even need to buy
Big Meks and whatnot. Just convert them.

two things:

1. Im glad I finally see some sort of approx release date for the ORks.

2. With how worthless the US $ has become, That pound price is over 200 US $ and it sure doesn't look like it.

I love the weak dollar!! Brits pay 100 pounds, in the US it costs $ 170.

Here is the US advanced orders page: http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=List_Models&code=304529&orignav=9

interesting that they are selling "bitz upgrades" for storm boys, etc to use with the basic boyz box. That seems like a new trend.

New prices are on GW's coming orders website.

Ork Boyz are $22 for 10
Lootas/Burnas are $20 for 5
Bikes are $35 for 3

Also apparently the manager at our local GW found out today that if you pre-order the Spearhead they'll let you buy the Codex the same day you pick up the spearhead.

Too bad it's too late for me to tell my wife to get me one for XMas, and I'm not about to go spend that much money on myself right before the Holidays.

This is real?

The price per boy has dropped?
