Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

Adepticon has grown out of a strong local gaming scene we certainly have some of that heritage and we are working on ways to address the fact that AdeptiCon is now a national event. But I certainly see just as many "houserules" enforced at other events. For the future your going to be able to read the FAQ document and know ahead of time what to expect. I know the effort that went into that document on my end and well can only imagine the hours Yakface has invested.

The FAQs where a huge step in the right direction for fixing a lot of Adepticon's problems. You don't not notice how many house rules you adopt do to GWs rule writing until you play others from around the country and see their house rules come into conflict with your house rules.

I still do not like the Forge World in the Championships. I know the Midwest loves their forgeworld, but the vast majority of the country does not use it for RTTs (or have much access to it).

Now I am all for Forgeworld at the Gladiator (I fought 2 Warhound Titans in Game #1 of the Gladiator last year) but in the RTT I hate to see things like infernious shells, greater spine beasts, and those giant spore mines.

I also disagree with the dice down rule. It is the one thing that can be easily abused in tournament play. Players should be allowed to complete the current game turn they are in.

Once the clock runs out Judges should go to the tables that have not turned in results and push to finish the game with little to no delays from that point on. Penalties should be imposed on anyone that takes more time than is necessary to complete a game.

I don't think I've ever had that problem, my games don't even usually last an hour but then again my turns consist of me moving about 30 models and shooting about 8 of them. Not much going on there! I think I only had 3 games all year at the tourneys I went to where the game lasted 'almost' the whole time, but even then we had 10-15 minutes left by the time turn 6 was over.

Basically, if you take more than 2 to 2 1/2 hours to play a game of 40k, you should probably learn to think faster. Especially since most of the armies I saw this year were either static high model count guard armies or low model count eldar, zillanids, chaos, tau etc. The former allows you to breeze through the movement and assault phase of the game and the latter has 1/3 the parts so shouldn't take too long to move about and get done with your phases.

You've obviously missing the point.

It doesn't matter if you play quickly. It matters if he plays quickly.

You simply can not actually force someone else to play at any particular speed, and a dice down rule benefits those that don't want the game to finish and are willing to make that happen.

I guarantee that any smart person that wants to, with any sort of army, can make sure a 2 1/2 hour game only goes 4 turns if they want, and there will be not only nothing you can do about it, but no red flags raised that it was done intentionally.

@ mauleed-I get what your saying, but I've never had to deal with it personally. I guess this is one of those things you gotta deal with first hand to get worked up about.

Oh and when do you want to fight an eldar list I'm trying to concoct, all proxy except for falcons?

I think you mean 'in all competitive games with clock management rules'.

Hey, just ensure me I get to play you in one game in all the adepticon tournaments and I'll come out. I'll wait until I have just enough VPs or objectives to win, and I'll go take a walk.

Sure. I'd be more than happy to play you. But you have to come to Adepticon first...lol. Additionally, if you felt like taking a walk for a half an hour that's fine by me. Just don't be mad when your Sportsmanship score sinks into the toilet. Usually I give my opponents average to above marks on Sportsmanship...but in instances of obvious stalling I will be firm in getting them to pick up the pace in the game...or suffer the consequences...even if I end up on the losing end. In the Necro one of my opponents was unusually slow and I had to gently remind him time and again that the game is a timed game.

If you don't mind me proxying orks, any time is fine. I'm free later tonigt, time dependent on if my son goes to karate or not. \

And let's play a timed game and I'll slowhammer you, haha!

Oh I'm coming this year, but if you want to play me, you'll have to learn how to play fantasy.

Bah. Fantasy....lol. That game bores me. What's the point of painting all those models when only the front rank is really doing the fighting..lol. You might as well paint 5 guys for the front rank and us a D20 for counting casualties. Oh well. Maybe we can play during after hours or open gaming. Or we can just drink...lol.

I'm probably going to fly, so if you want to play me in 40k, you'll have to bring two armies.

If

Dice Down = bad

and

NO strict imposition of time limits = bad

How about the following:

Every match gets a chess timer with HALF the alotted time on it per side (even distribution = good).
Your turn ends, you hit the timer & start your opponents time.
You go until (a) you run out of time or (b) 6 turns is reached... whichever comes first.

Sorry, sparky.
We're on turn 4 and you just ran out of time? I have a half hour left?
I'll be taking my turn 5, now... and probably turn 6. I'll just take those objectives and.... you didn't need that scoring unit anymore. Did you?

Yeah... it breaks the RAW... but how long do you think it would take before people straightened their sh** up?

You don't think an accomplished delayer can delay your turn? Selecting shooting casualties, checking your lines of sight, rolling armor save, conducting assault actions (in Fantasy, handling charge reactions, dealing with counter-spells, etc.).

Also, then tournament organizers must provide chess timers, and handle mechanincal issues, etc.

What about just a last turn call?

Judge calls last turn. If it's first player's turn he finishes, then the second player does his complete turn, then game over. If it's second player's turn he finishes and game over.

Call last turn at the 2 hour mark. Figure about 20-30 minutes for the last turn to be played. Then whatever break you want. Then next game.

It makes it so you can't write down a 100% concrete time schedule, but everyone gets their full turns and the organizers still have enough of a schedule to be able to plan and execute the tournament in a timely manner.

Unfortunately, that just makes it easy to game the clock, if your army likes fewer late-game turns. Now your procrastinator just has to make sure that it's the second player's turn at the 2 hour mark.

I'm not sure there's a rules mechanic fix for this problem. Tournaments need to run approximately on time (the larger, the more important that is), and some people are jerks enough to manipulate the clock to their advantage.

How about a bitch-slap for the guys who try to game the clock. Or they have to wear a sign all day announcing their cheesiness. Obviously it will be hard to tell the people who intentionally go slow and those that just are slow so it'll be at the judges discretion who gets the slap.

Or you can just ding their Sports scores enough to be a deterrent.

Synister wrote:With the recent surge of participation in large tournament events such as Games Workshop’s 2007 Tournament Circuit and ‘Ard Boyz events, there has been much friendly smack talking and boasting of who truly can be considered the best general in the land. Well, at AdeptiCon 2008, top generals will have their chance to set the record straight and take home the title of the 2007 GW 40k Tournament Circuit Warmaster.

Get ready to bring your “A” game to this tournament, because there are no baby seals to club here: to qualify for this prestigious tournament, players must have scored in the top 10 for Battle Points in a 2007 Games Workshop Tournament Circuit Event (this also will include the Ard Boyz Finals event). Qualifying players (see link below) who would like to take on the challenge of playing against the best competition in the United States should send an email confirming their attendance to awc_nfp@yahoo.com with a subject line of “Tournament Circuit Invitational” and include their full name in the body of the message. The first 50 qualifying players to respond are guaranteed a spot in the tournament. There is no cost to attend this AdeptiCon tournament other than purchasing an AdeptiCon Weekend Badge through the normal webcart process. As the 2007 Tournament Circuit Invitational Championships occurs on Sunday at AdeptiCon, players participating in this Invitational event will not be able to play in the AdeptiCon 40k Championships. A list of qualifying players can be found at http://www.adepticon.org/08rules/0840Kinvite.html

Is there any love for those of us outside the US? Any way to qualify? Any chance of a one off rebate on air fares?

I can't speak for the Adepticon folks, but if you scored in the top 10 in a GW GT, send them an e-mail and plead your case.

And I think no matter how high you scored outside of the UK, you still need to qualify in one of the 3 heats to get into the UK GT finals. It might be the same deal.

The delay issue is really quite simple to remedy: if both players do not complete 5 turns each, then they both get a loss. Simple, and will discourage arguments and delaying tactics.

On a different topic all together...I'd love to go to an Adepticon, but since I currently work in the accounting industry, I see little hope of ever being able to do so, as long as they continue to host events in early to mid April, and until such time as I can get out of the acounting industry.
