Sorry gdurant that your post got ignore.

Dipping is simply painting your miniature without any highlighting or shading then submerging it in a tub of wood varnish, then giving it a good shake before leaving it to dry. It shades varnishes and protects at once. Google-fu your own dipping technique threads, there are good ones on Warseer.

Advantages:
Its very quick.
You get superior protection
You can get a verry good shading effect.

Disadvantages:
Its very messy!
It blanks out fine detail and highlighting.
You wont tell how ther finish will look unless you do a test miniature first.
You can only efectivelty have one shade of highlight and shading on your miniature.

All in all itas a decent painting method thast works for some armies by not others.
For example: Dipping is perfect for Tyranids and a complate no no for High Elves.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

@Green Blow Fly, Yes dipping for pay might be illegal in 48 states, but California is one of the 2 where it is legal. As a matter of fact, in this liberal state, it is encouraged. Oh the horror!
