Keep in mind the new boyz box includes nob bitz and with the amount your buying youll have no shortage of options for variants. With how static those old metal nobz are and the ease of working in plastic its a no brainer.
True, but you could buy a box of nobz for more.
Right, i was basing that off the fact he seemed to want to stay away from the metal models though (black orcs). Your right though, i think the metal nobz are the only way to get stock ork combi-weaponry as well.

I do. I'm avoiding metal like the plague. You can just do SO MUCH more with plastic.
Metal BITS, I'm fine with... but I want the main models, and most of their component parts, to be plastic.
Has anyone ever seen Stormboys made with Raptor backpacks?
I use them with my SM Assault marines, and they look COOL. I was just wondering if they'd be as cool with orks.
As for combi-weapons... that's no problem. I'm not afraid to try to convert something.
Thanks for the input!

Okay, guys.
How does this shopping list look?
I utilized a lot of suggestions here, as well as the copy of the ORK CODEX I came across.
Note that Kommandoes and/or Stormboyz will be converted.
I will create (though, not always use) a MAX Sized squad of Bikerz & an Extra Nob so I can run it as 2 units, should I ever want to, so I'm not worried about the large # of bikes (the extras mean I can convert the other ones interestingly).
Ork Battleforce x5 (5 trukks & 100 Boyz-- BOO YAH!)
Bomb Squigs x2 (Maybe 1... Did I miss an entry for them in my overview of the codex?)
Grot Oiler x2
Big Mek x1
Big Mek with Bosspole x1
Ork Wierdboy x1
Ork Lootas & Burnas x 2(can convert more)
Ork Tank Bustas x2 (can convert more)
Ork Boyz x1
WH Orc regiment x1
WH Black Orcs x1
Eldar Wraithlord x1
SM Dreadnought x1
I think that'll be a good start, although I will need to invest in a few sheets of sheet styrene (of various sizes) and a few more pieces of plastic rods & tubes... and a LOT of glue!
Anything I've missed, now?
Remember, I'll have around 130 Boyz, so I'll be able to convert most of the units I'm not specifically buying.

Sounds like you'll have everything you'll need. Unless you want to make a battlewagon. Then you'll need a land raider or something else large such as a baneblade. Also why are you buying another box of boyz? you'll already have lots of them with the battleforces and the wh orks.

For regular games, I already have a Battlewagon in process.
I got about HALF of a Forgeworld Shadowsword in a trade on Bartertown a while ago. When I heard that Apoc was coming & an Ork codex was arriving at about the same time, I decided to convert it (I didn't have enough parts to do anything BUT loot it), paint it & sell it on ebay.
When I decided to play orks, I decided to keep it.
In Apoc games, it'll be an "appropriated" Shadowsword... THAT is when I'll need to worry about a battlewagon. It shouldn't be a big deal, though. You can find deals on poorly assembled tanks on Bartertown & ebay all the time.
As for why I'm buying the extras... Well, I'll want some for "flavor" on the trukks (permanently attached, hanging off of the backs & sides) and I'll be converting extra Lootas, Burnas & Tanks bustas. I'll need Ridaz for my "DethChoppaz."
I just want to make certain I have enough for 6 GOOD SIZED mobs (since 5th ed is apparently going to be "The season of the troop unit") and plenty for converting. I'd rather have too many than not enough. If I have to buy them later, I can kiss that discount for order size goodbye.

Each boyz box gives you PLENTY of stuff. The only thing
that'll be rare are the Nob and special weapons sprue
since you get one of them. However, each boy can be
equipped with either slugga/choppa or shootas, so if you
field a unit with one, you have ten arms worth of equipment
of the other.

Your army is going to be awesome. Good luck converting/building everything. It's going to be a large undertaking. Just thinking of all the mold lines is making my skin crawl. It's like the best possible nightmare. So many models you can't possibly assemble them all. That sounds really nice actually.

I'll have 6 of them. i figure that SHOULD be enough.
If it's not, I could always go cheaper & get another Boyz box instead of the WH Orcs box. I'll have less boys... but I think I'd be able to manage. I'm kind of looking forward to getting ahold of some of those WHF ORc bits, though.
Which do you guys think would be the better choice? More boyz & diverse bits or a 7th "special" sprue?

Oh, God.
Why did you have to remind me of the mold lines?
::shudder::

Shoot! I've been gaming 27 years, since I started playing D&D... I already HAVE that! LOL
LOL
NOW, I have so many models I can't possibly assemble them all but WANT to! Now, THERE is a difference. LOL
