neat looking model, but a little far-fetched for my tastes, makes me think of the family guy episode when peter directs the king and I... anyone who could take an idea like Kroxigor and turn it into *that* is definietly very creative...

i have to agree but if you do a good job and have a kool display board it all is cool
hell, my friend and i did a carnival of chaos army for the 2007 adepticon team fantasy tourny and used all mordhiem models for it, but no one cared cause we went all out.........
.......just to emphasis the craziness......we had a working miniature carousel build into our display board that held a unit of five nights....they were removeable, and went up down and around when the carousel was turned on. we also had the FW greater deamon of nurgle as part of our display board...(removable of course)

youve heard of carnival of chaos conversions or the moving carousel?
its just that the lava man arent in any official fluff, and people at tournaments or people who dont know you need to get your whole story through your army and your display board, if they cant, its just wasted effort
if they can however, thats the prize

yea the moving carousel. my friend tony was telling me about it before. sounds like an awesome idea, you should put pics up in a new topic man i'd love to see it.
also since you obviously know something about converting, what d you think i should do to better improve my idea and make the lavaman kroxigors more believable?

i might do that, its currentely at my friends house right now.
for you:
the board: This is the first thing that people are going to see, as its the biggest. I would suggest having a volcano or some other form of flowing lava. You dont want it to be so big that there isnt room for the models. Apart form maybe one big stream, you want a lot of smaller streams.(youll see why under bases)
Models(non krox): You prolly want to choose a color scheme that goes with your board. perhaps black skin and red scales or orange flesh and yellow/red or black scales. These will help tie your army to the volcanic region as any lizards living there would have adapted to the terrain.
Models(krox):I would definately not use hot glue. The one main reason why is because you dont have control over how your model looks in the end. i probably wouldn't use GS for the base of the model either as its likely to get expensive. I found that epoxy sculpt is a cheap a good alternative, you can usually get like a pound for 10 bucks. This will give you a way to control how the model looks, allowing you to do a more flowing theme. I would also find medallions or tokens from other sprues and adorn the krox with them. this will help tie the lava men to lizardmen. for the scales i would probably use GS. Take small blobs and put them on the model where you wand the "crust" to be. use a sculpting tool coated with some vaseline to smooth them out to a nice finish, making sure to keep the lines in between them for cracks. once they are all smooth, take sand paper and lightly press it into the putty to give it a more porous look. also using the cold one head would also help, but i would only do it if you had the new cold ones, not the old models as the heads might be too small.
Bases: remember the little streams of lava on the display board, run those through your bases. It doesnt have to be on everyone but (especially in block units) you can use it to really give your unit a unifiying look. this will attach the unit to the board and therfore to the krox as well. it also give you a chance to try out some illumination effects on the legs and underbellies of the models if you want, which will give you painting points.
hope that helped.

well i', way ahead of you on the lava flow thing. my display board is already mapped out and i have a 4" lava river running down the center of the board. the volcano mouth is right in the center of the top of the temple that'll be on the board.
also i really like the uncontrolled look of the hot glue. it makes a much more natural look to the model as it just kinda goes, and i've used the end of the hot glue gun (as it is extremely hot) to melt and remove the glue from places like joints and especially to seperate the legs. also the hot glue if done one bit at a time makes the layered look so the the model doesn't end up looking like a blob. the final benefit of hot glue is if you screw up it's super easy to cut away from the model.
i'm definitely going to do scales on their backs now as crust and to fit in with lizardmen too. and i'll also be using cold one heads (the new ones) to make them look even more lizardy. my plan is after the rest of the model is done use some green stuff to mold the heads on so that they aren't just plopped right into the hot glue, which would look quite silly.
i'm planning on using the cold one champion mount heads to make them more special looking. do you guys think that'll look alright? or should i use the regular heads?

i would use all different heads, so that they all look different. the head is gonna be one of the few clearly defined parts on the model, and having them all the same will have a more profound effect than it normally might.
I cant wait to see the finished army

alright, well then i need to pick up like one or two others as i only have like 6 lying round, so if you know any good places to get them that would be much appreciated. i know bwbits has the champion head, so i'll buy another of those as i only have 1 already, but the other one or two might be a bit trickier.

As for the heads, you´d be painting those bone colored? Might be cool (fluffwise) to summon ancient lizardman heroes to battle, using their skulls as focal points.
And of course, they´d need to be accompanied by skink mages or some such to lead the way, since these ancient warriors had dulled senses and stuff!
Possibly a little too 40K Eldar (my fluff bit that is)...
Ahh well, nvm that, I think your idea has merit. Go with it!

quick question, what kind of weapons should i give my lavamen? i could build something using a spear haft, and a lizardman club head, but i'm afraid it'll be too small, what other good weapons could i use? like that would fit with lizardmen, and would be big enough

I think a nice shell of black, cracked rock with lava pouring through would be best, as well as adding A LOT more depth to the miniatures. Look at some pictures of flowing lava for inspiration.

well i'm asking more about a weapons, rather than the models. obviously i need to do some more work on the final products as the model in this thread was just a test to see if the idea would actually work or not.
so anyway back to my question. any good suggestions for weapons? or just say "look they are made of lava, so their wole body is one big weapon" because i'd see lava as being S7 no problem, and it'd be slow to attack as well

i might pick up some plasticard and file it into curved blades. You can probably find osme really good pics of mayan or aztec weapons on the internet and just copy the basi shape. Then just add a little detail when you paint em.

alright, i guess that sounds like a decent way to get some semi decent weapons for some lizardmen krox. my other idea was to use the black orc potato mashers, as i am using a box of black orcs for the base of the model, and just make those look more lizardmanish

why don't you make the hands into weapons? (kind of like the one toy from the film Small Soldiers) I could imagine the lavamen having huge boulder/club/wrecking ball (sort of ball-on-the-end-of-a-stringy-bit-of-lava-type-thing)/hammer shaped lumps of solidifying lava for hands, as they are lava it would be easy for them to do this.

well the weapons i am using will be green stuffed so that it look as if they are coming out of the lavaman himself and are taking the form of a weapon.
my updated idea is that they are making whatever they had in life out of their newfound lava forms. so some objects on their body are going to be more pronounced than others, and some will simply be trinket and such that are morphing out of the lava
