@ Bartholomew: It is based on 3 different kits, the Defiler (legs, arms and some gubbins), Sentinel (head, and gubbins) and the Whirlwind, for the launchers mainly, though i think i´m gonna add some sort of aerial array, with the two scanners from the whirlie, some extra antennae, and whatever else comes to mind.

@ Boss Salvage: Yes, seeing the legs was what did it for me too.

Thanks for the input eveyone, i´m currently doing some travelling, but have brought the Bot with me, and will try to get some pics uploaded later this week.

Currently working on shoulders and top missile mount.

As far as painting goes, i´m thinking all metals first, and then doing the armor plating in a somewhat muted color, possibly green. I want it to look like a war machine, not a fancy marine tank.

Time for a little update. I feel quite weak without my usual box of tools and gadgets, but i´m managing with what i have.

I´ve given the legs and head a lick of grey paint, to better see what else is needed. Obviously the knee joints on the side need more detailing, and possibly I´ll need to add some cabling/hydraulics to give it that 40K imperial feel.

As far as the head goes, I´m planning to get some windowslits on there, a bit like the cadian style sentinels. Also, i´ll be putting a heavy bolter on it, to act as the hull HB.

Gaming wise, would i be better off with a Lascannon in 5th?

Also, I´ve started on the shoulder plating. I want to add a 45 degree angle to the sides, and vent grilles, and the middle of the carapace will be built up a few mm to fit the launcher mount better. Also, this should hopefully stop any missile/crew hatch mishap.

Hey ho, time for an update! I´ve been working on the carapace a bit, greenstuffing the sloped armor is harder than I´d expected, so I´m considering plasticarding over it instead. More work, but will look better.

The carapace launcher is pretty much done, as are the arms. Of course I still need to add rivets to the carapace, and a bit more plating to the front of it.

This is what it looks like now.

The height of the beast is about 6 inches/ 15cm.

I´m thinking of going with a muted grey look for the robot itself, obviously with many metal parts.

Then i´m going to go with a bit of heraldry here and there, possibly a banner from one (or both) of the launchers.

More pics later this week, the carapace is getting detail work atm.

Looks great, I love the Battletech look of this. I found a similar rivet punch at Michaels, in the scrapbook section. The one I have is a regular paper punch, but to me it's like a gift from Mork (or is it Gork?).

I want to build one of these now....

Okay, as promised, here´s an update with some pics.

As you can see the carapace has gotten quite a lot more detail in the form of plastcard borders.

Next step is a lot of GS work around the tiny little gaps everywhere. And then: Rivets!

Then it´s on to finish up the leg detailing, Cables and hydraulics, and final details. Starting to see an end to the modeling part of this ´bot.

AS random as a project this seems to me, I like it a lot, shows what you can build out of bits. Great Model can't wait for the finished project.

Thanks for the comments guys, very motivating to know that someone´s looking over my shoulder.

@Ghost: This project is actually not as random as it might seem.

All the way from 1st edition 40K, there was mention of "Knight Robots", sub-titan sized walkers, able to mount heavy weaponry.

The largest of these would actually mount a single titan weapon, but I figured that since this guy is a bit smaller than that, he´d be using "lighter" weaponry.

From 3rd ed.(possibly as late as 4th, don´t have my books with me atm?) and onwards, they were removed from main fluff, but still remain in other sources, such as the "Black Crusade" book that was released a few years ago.

I´m still waiting fo my 5th ed book, so I don´t know how obscure the references are now, but if they´ve retconned them entirely out, it will be the first time.

Just thought I´d share that.

P.S. Also, try Googling "40K Knight", you´ll get some interesting hits.

Looks good. Shoulders look much better with the added details. Might I suggest adding a bottom so you cant look inside from beneath? I think it makes the armor look thin and weak. Just a thought!

IRC its a Senschal

Seneshal knights with three rocket pods, each counted as a single missile launcher in the old rules, though you could upgrade that. The Paladin had a battlecannon and some secondary weaponry.

The Knight should not hacve any void shields, but should have something akin to an eldar field on its front or front and left arcs only.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Okay then, getting some colors on this beastie! I´ve painted the carapace and upper body, base colors only but getting there.

I´ve gone with Adeptus Battle Grey from the foundation set for the plating, this will be gradually taken up to a lighter grey.

For the metal bits I´ve used Brazen brass, will be taking this to shining gold, possibly with some fancy stuff on the sloping sides.

This is mostly to get an idea of the color scheme.

Also, what do you think about the "windows" in the head? I´m having second thoughts about them now that I´ve painted them.

I may need to construct viewports instead...

Okay, I´ve hit a snag. I need something cool for the carapace paintjob. But I can´t decide which way to go.

I´ve been thinking about several options.

1. A cityscape paintjob. I´m thinking something like an artwork, a city from afar, skyline sorta thing. Dark grey on light grey.

The reasoning behind this, is that this machine is old, an heirloom. So the current owner might have had something like this made, to honor his ancestors.

2. Battleship style camo.

This is by far the easiest thing to do. Also, it might look good with the grey and brass/gold.

3. Dappled grey. Like the horses, you know?

The rider of this type of machine sees himself as a noble knight, and his machine as his steed. So something akin to horse coloring might be good. Also FW uses this scheme for some of their Titans. That can ofcourse both be good and bad...

Any thoughts?
